There are just under two weeks to go until the Australian Grand Prix, so SportsCasting has taken a look at the F1 records that could be broken during the 2025 season.

The 2024 season saw Max Verstappen win his fourth straight drivers’ championship while McLaren won the constructors’ championship for the first time since 1998.

It is predicted to be a close season with the likes of Lando Norris, Lewis Hamilton, Charles Leclerc, George Russell and Oscar Piastri all hoping to end Verstappen’s domination at the top of the sport.

Below, are the various F1 records that could be broken during the 2025 season.

F1 Records That Could Be Broken This Season

Record For Most F1 Drivers’ Championships

Lewis Hamilton has had to watch Max Verstappen win four straight titles since he was last crowned champion in 2020.

He had a chance to take a record eighth title at the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. That was until the controversial ending which led to Verstappen winning his first.

Since then he has not been in the fight. He even had two seasons where he failed to win a single race.

After 12 years at Mercedes he has made the blockbuster switch to Ferrari. He hopes this will be the season he can break away from sharing seven titles with Michael Schumacher.

Youngest F1 Grand Prix Winner Record

The F1 record for the youngest winner is currently held by Max Verstappen, but that could be broken during 2025.

Verstappen took the record at the age of 18 years, 7 months and 15 days when he won his debut race for Red Bull at the 2016 Spanish Grand Prix.

Mercedes rookie Andrea Kimi Antonelli will be 18 years, 6 months and 19 days old when he makes his debut at the Australian Grand Prix.

It is rare for a rookie to enter Formula One in one of the sport’s top cars, though his inexperience will make it a challenge for him to win early in the 2025 season.

However, should he cross the line first in any of the opening three races of the season, he will break Verstappen’s record.

Youngest F1 Polesitter Record Could Be Broken In 2025

Andrea Kimi Antonelli, Oliver Bearman and Gabriel Bortoleto could take this F1 record in 2025 by picking up a pole position at any time during the season.

However, Bortoleto and Bearman are unlikely to take a pole given the pace of their cars.

This record is held by Sebastian Vettel who took pole at the 2008 Italian Grand Prix aged 21 years and 72 days.

So Antonelli has until the 2027 season to take this record off the four-time champion.

Most Podium Finishes In A F1 Rookie Season

This is a record that Andrea Kimi Antonelli has more chance of breaking during the 2025 season.

Lewis Hamilton currently holds the record with 12. However, Hamilton drove in just 17 races during his debut season, while Antonelli will drive in 24.

Another driver who has a solid chance of beating this record is Red Bull’s Liam Lawson.

Some might not class Lawson as a rookie given that he drove five races in 2023 and six last year.

However, should he pick up 13 podiums or more this season, he would hold the outright record for the most in his first-full season of racing in Formula One.

Most Consecutive F1 Drivers’ Championships Record

While this is not a record can be outright beaten this year, it would be an important milestone for Max Verstappen.

Michael Schumacher holds the F1 record for most consecutive drivers’ championships when he won five between 2000 and 2004.

Hamilton came close to this mark when he led the start of the final lap of the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, only to have the title snatched away by him from Verstappen.

Four years later and Verstappen could win his fifth-straight title. However, he faces his toughest defence yet with Red Bull losing pace in the second-half of last year.

Meanwhile, if Verstappen wins 22 out of 24 races this year, he would beat Lewis Hamilton’s record for the most wins with any one team (84).

Such a number would beat his record of 19 race wins in a season. Those records look highly unlikely however.

Most Wins Without A F1 World Championship Could Be Broken In 2025

Legendary British driver Stirling Moss currently holds the record for most wins without winning a world championship (16).

Ferrari star Charles Leclerc currently has eight race victories and could be a title contender this year.

He could tie Moss’ record with eight wins this season or surpass it with nine.

Eight races is just a third of the length of the Formula One season in 2025. So a driver could easily lose the title with that many victories if another driver is more consistent.

F1 Record For Most Fastest Laps

One of the records Lewis Hamilton doesn’t hold is for the most fastest laps set in Formula One history.

He is currently second on 67 – 10 behind the total set by Michael Schumacher.

The fastest lap in recent years saw drivers claim a bonus point. However, this usually went to drivers who weren’t challenging for the win and would pit for a fresh set of tyres in the last laps of the race.

However, this year one of the rule changes in Formula One is the removal of the fastest lap point. So the quickest drivers will have more chance of adding to their total.

F1 Record For Longest Gap Between Victories

It has been 4,264 days since Fernando Alonso stepped on the top step at the 2013 British Grand Prix.

The current record is held by Ricciardo Patrese who after winning the 1983 South African Grand Prix, did not win again until the 1990 San Marino Grand Prix.

Alonso and Aston Martin are not expected to win a race this season and struggled for pace during pre-season testing.

However, Alonso’s pace is still impressive aged 43, and could win in the event of a crazy race.

Should Alonso win, he will be the oldest driver to win since Jack Brabham back in 1970.
