Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown has said Chelsea are contemplating signing former Arsenal man Aaron Ramsdale in the summer transfer window.
With Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen failing to convince Enzo Maresca, the Pensioners are scouring the market for a worthy replacement.
Ramsdale, meanwhile, is suffering at bottom-ranked Southampton. With the Saints only picking up nine points from 27 matches, they are heading toward a drop to the Championship. The ex-Arsenal man is eager to keep fighting in the English top flight and would jump ship if Southampton are relegated. There is reportedly a clause in his contract that would allow him to move on if the club drop to the second division.
Mick Brown Says Former Arsenal Man Aaron Ramsdale Could Join Chelsea
Brown, who scouted for Man Utd during their most successful era, has linked Ramsdale with a move to Chelsea, noting how it could work out for both the player and the club.
“Chelsea are assessing their options in the transfer market,” Brown told Football Insider.
“The problem for them is, there aren’t too many top-class goalkeepers available. One of those options, I’m told, is Aaron Ramsdale.”

He continued:
“The Arsenal manager obviously didn’t think he was good enough to be their number one, so he went out and bought Raya to replace him.
“But from what I hear, Chelsea feel he would be an upgrade on the options they’ve already got. Ramsdale is an England international and has been pretty highly rated throughout his career.”
Brown concluded by adding:
“He’s a decent goalkeeper, I’m not so sure whether he’s top-class, but that’s up to them to decide.
“He doesn’t want to play in the Championship, so if and when Southampton go down, and Chelsea come calling, he’ll want to make that move. They’ll be able to offer him first-team football because they’ve not been happy this season.”
Ramsdale joined Southampton from Arsenal after losing his place to David Raya last season. Before exiting the club, the England international played 89 games for the club in all competitions, keeping 32 clean sheets and conceding 99 goals.
Ramsdale has featured in 19 games for Southampton in the 2024-25 Premier League season, letting in 45 goals and maintaining two clean sheets.
