Bookies Prepare For Mega £50m Payout On Day One Cheltenham Acca Most Punters Are On

Just hours to go before the tapes go up on the 2025 Cheltenham Festival, which will climax with the Gold Cup on Friday. However, the bookies are fearing a day one £50m bashing with FOUR odds-on favourites that most punters will be plonking in doubles, trebles and accas.

What Is The Day One Cheltenham Acca That Could Clean The Bookies Out?

Most experienced horse racing punters that attend the Festival each year will tell you not ALL of the ‘so-called’ Cheltenham Bankers will win.

There have been many hard luck stories over the years – with the most famous being that Annie Power final flight fall in 2015 that saved the best betting sites in the UK a reported £50m payout on the opening day of the meeting.

However, as we head into the 2025 Cheltenham Festival there is another big day one acca that the layers are already reporting could cost them millions – which will make it hard for them to recover going into the rest of the meeting.

Especially with other big fancies like Jonbon (Champion Chase), Teahupoo (Stayers’ Hurdle) and Galopin Des Champs (Gold Cup) still to come.

And even though the percentage call is to think at least one of these Cheltenham hotpots on day one will lose – there is also a big feeling between punters that – ‘if you can’t beat them, join them’.

No one wants to be ‘that person’ who wasn’t on the big day one Cheltenham bankers acca, so we can expect many punters to be chucking a token £5, £10 or even more on this 7/1 multiple.

7/1 Cheltenham Festival Day One Acca That Could Cost The Bookies Millions

  • 1:20 Supreme Novices’ Hurdle: KOPEK DES BORDES (Evs)
  • 2:00 Arkle Novices’ Chases: MAJBOROUGH (4/7)
  • 3:20 Mares’ Hurdle: LOSSIEMOUTH (4/6)
  • 4:00 Champion Hurdle: CONSTITUTION HILL (8/13)
  • Combined Odds: Approx. 7/1

1:20 Supreme Novices’ Hurdle: KOPEK DES BORDES

Kopek Des Bordes been all the rage for the 2025 Festival opener since romping away with the Tattersalls Ireland Novice Hurdle at the Dublin Racing Festival in February.

Mullins has also won the Supreme seven times in the past and was also the first race he won at the Festival back in 1995.

Those looking to take Kopek Des Bordes might look to a Supreme Novices’ Hurdle trend that has only seen two winning outright favourites since 2005.

While he’s also sporting the first-time hood after being a bit buzzy in his races – but the Mullins Festival stats for horses in first-time headgear are only 1-33 (6 places).

The bookies will be hoping one of these Supreme stats comes in for them in the opener, while Cheltenham acca backers will be hoping Kopek Des Bordes can kick these trends into touch.

2:00 Arkle Novices’ Chases: MAJBOROUGH

If Kopeck Des Bordes wins, punters will turn to Majborough in the Arkle Novices’ Chase as the next leg of the day one mega Cheltenham acca.

This 5 year-old landed the Triumph Hurdle at the meeting last season and will be looking to give JP McManus is first Arkle winner and also become the first horse to win both the Triumph and the Arkle EVER.

He was last seen easily winning the Irish Arkle at the DRF in early February and with his main rival Sir Gino on the sidelines, for many he rates one of the overall bankers at the whole meeting.

If there is something the layers will cling to here though it’s an Arkle trends to do with age – not many 5 year-olds have won this race.

In fact, you have to go back to 2006 to find the last winning 5 year-old – who was Voy Por Ustedes. 16 have tried since – while since 1958 there have only been six winning 5 year-olds take the race.

3:20 Mares’ Hurdle: LOSSIEMOUTH

Next up is Lossiemouth – a star grey mare that seasoned National Hunt fans know well.

She was expected to run in the Champion Hurdle 40 minutes later, but after a tumble in the Irish Champion Hurdle last time out – her connections have decided to take the easier route.

Lossiemouth also won this race with ease 12 months ago and is yet to lose a race at Cheltenham (3-from-3).

4:00 Champion Hurdle: CONSTITUTION HILL

If the day one Cheltenham Festival accas are still in play come the Champion Hurdle, then we can expect Constitution Hill’s price to get even shorter.

The 2023 winner of this race missed his defence 12 months ago being on the sidelines but after a year out returned this season with wins in the Christmas Hurdle and Unibet Hurdle.

He’ll head to the Champion Hurdle looking to become the first horse since Hurricane Fly (2013) to regain his title and also provide his trainer Nicky Henderson with a tenth success in the race. Plus is also yet to lose a race under rules (10-from-10).

His main threat will come from the exciting mare Brighterdaysahead, who is looking to give her trainer Gordon Elliott a first win in the race.

If Constitution Hill wins – and the other three Cheltenham day one bankers have also all won – then we might not see some of the bookies back for day 2.

Good luck if you are on 🤞
