Rio Ferdinand has warned Man United and Arsenal not to sign Viktor Gyokeres, claiming he can’t make the step up to the Premier League.
Rio Ferdinand Warns Man United To Stay Away From Viktor Gyokeres
Gyokeres is one of the hottest prospects in the world right now due to his fierce ability to find the back of the net.
With over 80 goals in 90 games for his current club Sporting Lisbon, it is clear to see why both Manchester United and Arsenal are eyeing up the Swede.
One key factor to take away is that Gyokeres worked previously with current Man United manager Ruben Amorim in their days together at Sporting.
It has been well documented since Amorim took over at United that their need for a clinical striker has escalated rapidly.
However, Ferdinand is adamant that Viktor Gyokeres is “not the guy” for either Arsenal or Manchester United and has urged both clubs not to make a move for the Swedish international.
Ferdinand took to his YouTube channel this week and boldly claimed that: “I don’t think he’s the guy. I’ve not watched him loads but I’ve probably watched him three times really, really closely.
“Three times I’ve watched him and I’ve gone, ‘he ain’t getting those opportunities in the Premier League’. When I see him physically matched, I don’t see it. What else is there?”
Ferdinand claims that Gyokeres can get goals no doubt, but when matched up physically, especially in the Premier League, the Man United legend believes there’s not much more to offer.
Is Gyokeres The Man To Fire Arsenal To A Premier League Title?
After back to back seasons chasing their first Premier League title in over 20 years, Arsenal looked set to be the closest challenger once again this season.
However, with Arsenal finding themselves 15 points behind leaders Liverpool, it has left fans of Arsenal with huge concern regarding the lack of firepower in the front line.
If Arsenal look set to make amends next season, there’s no doubt they need to find a lethal striker to take them to that next level. Factoring in the decision not to sign a striker in the January transfer window and then losing Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz to injuries, if anyone needs a striker, it’s Arsenal.
There aren’t too many world class strikers on the market at the minute, hence the reason clubs like Arsenal and Manchester United are struggling to score goals but one name every team would love to have is Newcastle’s Alexander Isak.
Ferdinand believes Arsenal are not getting Isak so they “need to be realistic” implying the Swede’s price tag of £120million is a push too far and that Arsenal may have to settle for someone like Gyokeres to satisfy their needs.
If Arsenal look to go one step further and win the Premier League title next season they will need someone to find the back of the net on a consistent basis meaning Viktor Gyokeres, may be the man to do it.
