Punters Cautious Of Top Grand National Trainer With NO Winners From Their Last 36 Runners

With the 2025 Grand National just hours away now, punters are busy studying the form of the confirmed 34 runners. There are many things to consider – including ground, staying power, age and weight – plus the form of the stables with entries.

And it’s this final part that some punters are starting to focus on when it comes to one of the big Grand National trainers, who has won the race THREE times.

Gordon Elliott Has Only Had ONE Winner From His Last 39 Runners

In the modern era, no trainer has had more Grand National winners than Gordon Elliott.

The top Irish handler has fired in three big successes in the world-famous steeplechase – with his most recent a double offering of Tiger Roll in 2018 and 2019.

Heading into the 2025 renewal the Gordon Elliott Grand National runners, therefore, always attract plenty of interest from punters and the best horse racing betting sites in the UK.

This year, of the 34 confirmed Grand National entries, Elliott has FIVE runners – including two for top owners Gigginstown House Stud, who has won the race three times themselves over the years.

However, despite his top record in the race – punters have started to notice the poor run of form the Elliott yard is in at the moment – making them question if they should be siding with one of his National runners on Saturday.

As of Friday 4th April (before racing), the County Meath man has sent out just ONE winner from his last 39 runners sent to post – which equates to a poor 3% return over this period.

Gordon Elliott’s Last Winner Came Almost Two Weeks Ago

Elliott’s last winner came with a horse called Cardcounter back on Saturday 22nd March at Navan – which would be 14 days ago come Saturday.

He’s had 36 runners since without success (correct as 4th April 25).

On the opening day of the 2025 Aintree Grand National Festival, Elliott had four runners – which all lost.

However, there were some signs of encouragement that a return to form might not be far away when his star mare Wodhooh ran a blinder to be second in the Aintree Hurdle (watch below).

That said, later on the card their Willitgoahead, who was sent off as the 4/1 favourite for the Foxhunters, could only manage 10th.

Elliott also had six runners in his homeland at Naas, Ireland on Thursday – which also all lost.

His recent stats at Aintree now read.

  • Total Wins/Runs: 8-71
  • Chase Wins/Runs: 3-36
  • Hurdles Wins/Runs: 5-31
  • NH Flat Wins/Runs: 0-4
