Triple H - Original WrestleMania plans

Triple H has opened up on his evolving relationship with CM Punk in WWE.

In what many fans once thought impossible, WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H and former WWE Champion CM Punk have developed a respectful and collaborative relationship since Punk’s shocking return at Survivor Series 2023.

CM Punk walked out of WWE in 2014 due to numerous creative disagreements and long-standing tension with influential figures such as Vince McMahon and Triple H.

Fast forward to 2025, and the pair not only work together – Triple H now calls working with Punk “one of my favourite things in TV.”

Why Did CM Punk and Triple H Have Issues in the Past?

CM Punk’s rocky history with WWE is well documented.

After a record-setting 434-day WWE Championship reign, Punk was denied back-to-back WrestleMania main events in favour of part-time talent such as The Rock and Batista, leading to clashes with both Vince McMahon and Triple H.

He left WWE in early 2014 under acrimonious circumstances.

Publicly, Punk voiced disdain for “The Game”, both professionally and personally. Their creative visions clashed, and the two barely communicated positively for nearly a decade.

CM Punk’s WWE Return: “Hell Froze Over”

When CM Punk returned to WWE at Survivor Series 2023, fans and insiders alike were stunned.

Moments after stepping back into the spotlight, Punk was photographed backstage alongside Triple H – an image suggesting that the ice had truly thawed.

Behind the scenes, this reunion wasn’t just for show. According to Triple H, the real shift came when they had to confront a creative disagreement.

How Triple H Handles Creative Differences With CM Punk Now

Speaking on the High Performance podcast, Triple H described a moment of tension that turned into a breakthrough.

“There was one moment where [Punk] returned, and they told him something creatively and told me, ‘He does not like this’,” Triple H explained.

“I went and talked to him… I said, ‘I know you don’t like it. Let’s be open.’ He complained about what it was, and I said, ‘Let’s go sit and talk about it and come up with something good.’”

That conversation, Triple H says, was a ‘paradigm shift’ in their relationship.

“Now, sitting down and being collaborative with CM Punk is one of my favourite things in TV because he shares a very similar view of the business as I do.”

CM Punk To Main Event WrestleMania 41

CM Punk is now set to main event WrestleMania 41 Night One in Las Vegas, facing Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins in a highly anticipated Triple Threat Match.

It will be Punk’s first-ever WrestleMania main event – a long-time dream that eluded him during his first run.

The match not only signifies Punk’s redemption arc in WWE but also highlights the creative trust between him and Triple H.

With Triple H now firmly in charge of WWE’s creative direction, it seems CM Punk is finally getting the respect he long sought, and their relationship has come full circle.
