Newcastle THRASH Crystal Palace 5-0 With Four Goals In The First Half
Although Crystal Palace travelled to St James’ Park in reasonable form in the Premier League, the best UK football betting sites still favoured high-flying Newcastle United to do a job on the London visitors.
It was clear to see why the home side were heavily favoured to win under the St James’ Park lights as they hit the front within the opening quarter of an hour.
Jacob Murphy looked like he was shaping to cross from the right following Kieran Trippier’s pass, but instead opted for the shot as he smashed a fierce right-footed effort from such a tight angle and found the back of the net in emphatic fashion.
Questions could perhaps be asked of Dean Henderson in the Palace goal for letting a shot in at his near post from such a tight angle, but Murphy’s strike carried so much pace and precision that it went by him in a flash into the roof of the net.
The visitors has the opportunity to draw level from the spot just ten minutes before half-time, but Eberechi Eze’s penalty was well saved by Nick Pope in the Newcastle goal to deny Eze and keep the game at 1-0 at the interval.
Pope’s penalty save was pivotal, with the hosts going straight up the other end and scoring a second. This time it was a Marc Guehi own goal that helped double Newcastle’s advantage.
As if the first half couldn’t have gone any better for the hosts, they added a third and fourth just before half-time through Harvey Barnes and Fabian Schar. Barnes’ solo effort was simply sensational, with Schar’s delicate header giving the Toon a four goal advantage at the break.
HT: Newcastle 4-0 Crystal Palace
There was simply no way back for the visitors who needed more than a miracle to turn a four goal deficit around in 45 minutes at St James’ Park.
Less than 15 minutes into the second half and Newcastle had a fifth. This time it was their star striker Alexander Isak who found the net, with the hosts well and truly running riot under the St James’ Park lights.
Eddie Howe’s side continued to go through the motions and took their foot off the gas in the second half, with three points in the bag.
This win moves Newcastle United above Nottingham Forest into third in the Premier League table with just six fixtures remaining.
Another three wins would all but secure Champions League football next season for the Magpies, who are in fine form right now and could take some beating.
