RB Leipzig demand £65m for Xavi Simons as Premier League interest hots up

RB Leipzig are demanding a fee of £65 million for prized attacker Xavi Simons amid hot interest from the Premier League.

Xavi Simons transfer news: Leipzig want £65m for Dutch star

Simons is the subject of interest from England’s top dogs such as Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea ahead of the summer transfer window.

Fabrizio Romano reported Leipzig are asking for £65m to pry the Dutch sensation from their grasp after the club broke their transfer record (£42m, £67m including add-ons) to sign him permanently from Paris Saint-Germain in January.

It is believed the 21-year-old’s dream is to play for Barcelona somewhere down the line, the club he spent nine years of his youth career with from 2010 to 2019.

Simons failed to agree a new contract with the Catalan outfit in July 2019 and joined PSG on a three-year deal.

In June 2022 PSG sold him to Eredivisie club PSV Eindhoven and included a €6m buy-back clause in the contract, which was triggered the following year after a successful spell in the Netherlands.

Simons was the Eredivisie’s top scorer and finished the season with 22 goals and 12 assists in 48 appearances across all competitions, fulfilling his promise as one of Europe’s most talented youngsters.

Immediately after rejoining PSG, Simons was loaned out to Leipzig where he has remained ever since.

In 29 appearances this season, Simons has tallied ten goals and six assists as Leipzig hold fourth spot in the Bundesliga – in pole position to return to the Champions League in September.

Among Under 21 players across the top five leagues, Simons ranks third in most goals per 90 minutes (0.42) behind only teammate Benjamin Sesko (0.45) and Como’s Assane Diao (0.44).

Throughout last season’s league campaign, Simons ranked second in assists (11), shot-creating actions (176) and goal-creating actions (22) as well as third in progressive carries (151) and successful take-ons (84).

Not to mention fourth in passes into the penalty area (66) and key passes (79) which further demonstrate the sheer quality he brings to the club at such a young age.

Simons is already an established international for the Netherlands, making his senior debut at the 2022 World Cup and notably scored the opening goal in the Euro 2024 semi-final against England.
