Naoya Inoue - Boxing - Pound-For-Pound

Boxing Twitter reacts to pound-for-pound superstar Naoya Inoue stopping TJ Doheny in Round 7 of his latest unadjusted world super-bantamweight title fight.

Naoya Inoue STOPS TJ Doheny In Round 7

Inoue was expected to beat Doheny in emphatic fashion in their bout earlier this afternoon, which was being contested for all four of Inoue’s world super-bantamweight title belts.

The fight was the main event at the Ariake Arena in Tokyo, Japan, with some lunchtime viewing pleasure for UK boxing fans to enjoy on a Tuesday. Pre-fight, Inoue was expected to run through the Irishman with relative ease, but that didn’t end up being the case at all.

Despite winning the fight in Round 7, the bout was called to a halt after Doheny seemingly sustained a freak injury during the contest. Doheny, a former world champion himself, looked in extreme discomfort as he held his lower back and somewhat limped around the ring before taking a knee in the seventh round.

That was the beginning of the end for Doheny, with the referee jumping in and stopping the contest as the challenger was evidently unable to continue. This meant that Naoya Inoue defended all four of his undisputed world super-bantamweight title belts once again, extending his unbeaten record to 28-0 with an incredible 25 knockouts.

Although he clearly didn’t have it all his own way, Inoue adds another win to impressive resumé. Doheny can leave Tokyo with his head held high, giving ‘Monster’ far more problems than anyone imagined he would pre-fight.

Boxing Twitter Reacts To Naoya Inoue’s Latest Knockout

Some boxing fans lauded Inoue for his performance, saying that he has further cemented himself as one of the best pound for pound fighters on the planet.

Others were critical of Inoue, saying that he should have finished the fight sooner against a limited opponent who he should be beating more comfortably.

Some fans also added that the only reason the Japanese fighter won the fight via stoppage was because Doheny sustained an injury early in Round 7 of the contest.

Inoue is being rumoured to fight again in Japan in December. but many fans have stated they want to see the Japanese superstar do something different. Saudi boxing chief, His Excellency Turki Alalshikh, has spoken of his desire to launch a Boxing Super League, and Inoue would be the perfect man to fight in it.
