David Coote has been handed two charges by the Football Association over his explicit rant about Jurgen Klopp.
David Coote Charged By FA Over Jurgen Klopp Rant
Former Premier League referee David Coote has been charged by the FA over his famed rant about Jurgen Klopp.
Coote was heard calling Liverpool ‘sh**’ and described the former Reds boss as an ‘absolute c***’ in the leaked video.
He said: “Liverpool were sh** . Klopp is an absolute c***.
“Aside from having a right pop at me when I was refereeing them against Burnley in lockdown, he accused me of lying and then had a right f***ing pop of me.
“I have no interest in speaking to someone who is f***ing arrogant. So I do my best not to speak to him. James Milner is all right, I get on with him.
“You can see me there with a ‘mask’ on. But, my god, German c***, f*** me.”
Another video emerged showing Coote allegedly snorting a white powder at Euro 2024. He was also alleged to have discussed giving a yellow card before and after a game between Leeds and West Brom. Additionally, he allegedly attempted to organise a ‘drugs party’ before and during a fixture between Tottenham and Manchester City.
Coote was later sacked by the PGMOL in December, while he was handed a 16-month suspension by UEFA.
FA Statement: David Coote Hit With Two Charges
A statement released by the FA on Tuesday confirmed that Coote had been hit with two charges over the incident. He has been accused of an aggravated breach of FA Rule E3 in relation to the video, which was filmed in July 2020.
“David Coote has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3 in relation to comments that he made about Jurgen Klopp in a video recorded around July 2020 which appeared on social media in November 2024,” the statement read.
“It’s alleged that the referee acted in an improper manner and/or used abusive and/or insulting words contrary to FA Rules E3.1.
“It’s further alleged that this constitutes an ‘Aggravated Breach’, which is defined in FA Rule E3.2m as it included a reference – whether expressed or implied – to nationality.
“No charges have been issued in relation to allegations of gambling misconduct against David Coote, which were also fully investigated.”
Since the incident, Coote has been spotted in a new line of work, delivering packages for Evri.
The sacked referee was caught on a Ring doorbell camera dropping off a parcel at the start of the month.
He told The Sun: “I want to get on with my life. I’m trying to move forwards and regain a sense of responsibility and purpose. The job is keeping me busy and occupied, it’s not a new long-term career.”
