World Cup winner Emmanuel Petit has advised Arsenal to go after Real Madrid star Rodrygo, saying the transfer target would bring something special.
Petit, who played for the Gunners between 1997 and 2000, said the club must “splash a lot of money” to win the most sought-after trophies.
Arsenal Have Been Chasing Transfer Target Rodrygo Since May
Premier League aspirants Arsenal have long been chasing a prolific forward. They have been linked with several top names, but none of the moves have materialised.
Real Madrid star Rodrygo is one of the top names on their wishlist. And according to journalist Ben Jacobs, they have been trying to strike a deal for him since May. The North London club have supposedly tested the waters, and Real Madrid could accept a deal in the region of €90 million (£76.9 million).

Despite popping up with some decisive strikes for Real Madrid over the years, Rodrygo does not enjoy nearly as much fanfare as Vinicius Junior. Last season, he often stepped aside when manager Carlo Ancelotti chose to try a new tactic. In the Copa del Rey final last season, Rodrygo lasted for only one half. He also started just 22 games in LaLiga in 2024/25.
Emmanuel Petit Explains Why Rodrygo Would Be an Excellent Signing for Arsenal
With Rodrygo frequently playing second fiddle to his more celebrated teammates, rumours of a summer departure have been on the rise. Emmanuel Petit has urged Arsenal to capitalise and bring the player he loves to the Emirates Stadium.
In an interview with talkSPORTBET, the 1998 World Cup winner said (via CaughtOffside):
“I love Rodrygo as a player.
“I love his commitment on the pitch, and he can score and assist, he works hard and shows humility.”
Petit added:
“I think he would bring something great to Arsenal.”
The 24-year-old has played 268 games for Real Madrid in all competitions, so far, scoring 68 goals and providing 51 assists. He has won three LaLiga titles and two UEFA Champions League trophies, among other honours.

Rodrygo is not the only player on Arsenal’s radar. They are reportedly in advanced negotiations with Benjamin Sesko, whereas Viktor Gyokeres has also been linked.
Naming a few other transfer targets, Petit reminded Arsenal of the correlation between spending and winning.
“Benjamin Sesko is an option, Mohammed Kudus is another one, there is Alexander Isak, Nico Williams, but all players that Arsenal would face competition for.
“Arsenal have to do something important, they have to splash a lot of money, there is no choice but to put that money on the table and convince them that this is the season Arsenal will win a major trophy.”
Arsenal’s Premier League fixtures have been confirmed for the 2025/26 season. They will begin their English top-flight campaign with a clash against Man Utd on August 17.
