Wathnan Racing Royal Ascot Winners Stand At ELEVEN 🔴🔵🟡
Heading into the 2023 Royal Ascot meeting, many racing fans were frantically Googling ‘Who are Wathnan Racing?’
As the latest ‘money bags’ owners to hit the sport had bought some of the best flat horses in training and were ready to compete with the big boys like Godolphin and Coolmore.
Then with two Wathnan Racing Royal Ascot winners from just a handful of runners on one of the biggest stages in world flat racing.
The new (and now famous) blue, red and gold silks had arrived.
Both of their opening winners at the meeting were ridden by Frankie Dettori, who was riding at the meeting for the final time, which helped propel the interest. Not to mention being trained by John Gosden.
Gregory was their first Royal Ascot winner – taking the Queen’s Vase in 2023.
Courage Mon Ami Landed The Biggest Royal Ascot Race For Wathnan Racing
Then just a few days after Gregory’s win, the Wathnan Racing Royal Ascot winners hit the big time.
When winning the 2023 Ascot Gold Cup.
Again, it was a certain Frankie Dettori doing the steering on with the Wathnan Racing-owned Courage Mon Ami. Who they’d recently bought off A E Oppenheimer.
The win gave Dettori a remarkable ninth Ascot Gold Cup win. With his first Drum Taps in 1992.
It was also Frankie Dettori’s last win in the race as the popular rider had announced he was retiring at the end of the 2023 season.
However, in a dramatic retirement U-turn Dettori has since returned to riding in the US.
Plus Frankie Dettori has since filed for bankruptcy in March 2025, but continues to ride in America.
They ended the 2023 Royal Ascot with these two winners. But a year later – with a bigger army – added three more winners in 2024.
These Royal Ascot Wathnan Racing winners were Shareholder, English Oak and Haatem.
While fast forward to 2025 and they continue to do well at the meeting.
With FOUR more winners (and counting), with Haatem winning again, French Master and Crimson Advocate.
Then Humidity took the day five opener – the Chesham Stakes for jockey James Doyle and trainer Andrew Balding.
And Lazzat took the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes, with Doyle doing the steering yet again.

Who Is The Wathnan Racing Stable Jockey?
As soon as the Wathnan Racing silks hit the tracks around the world in 2023, they were also quick to snap-up their own stable jockey.
Step forward James Doyle, who landed the lucrative role as getting the pick from all the Wathnan Racing runners.
With Dettori having ridden their first two winners at Royal Ascot, many thought the pocket Italian would get the gig.
However, with an expected retirement on the horizon, Wathnan Racing turned to Doyle.
Doyle had formerly been one of the retained riders for Godolphin. But as the time of his Wathnan appointment was riding freelance.

Who Is Behind Wathnan Racing?
So, with no person’s name listed as an owner – a bit like Godolphin – who is behind Wathnan Racing?
The man behind the scenes pulling the strings and writing the big cheques is the Emir Of Qatar – Sheikh Thamin bin Hamad Al Thani.
And it’s fair to say he’s not short of a few quid and certainly doesn’t have to look down the back of his sofa for some loose change.
The Emir Of Qatar was also behind the countries 2022 FIFA World Cup bid and has also been involved in Champions League winners PSG.
He is also brother to Sheikh Joaan, who runs the Al Shaqab Racing, while he is cousin to Shiekh Fahad of Qatar Racing.
The Emir Of Qatar is reported to have a net worth of over £1.6 billion, with his ruling family said to have around £276 billion in the bank.
Which is why it’s no surprise the Wathnan Racing Royal Ascot winners will continue to come with more and more horses being added to their team each month.
DID YOU KNOW? Wathnan Racing is named after a desert Arabian horse – a stallion of Al Thani family folklore. Wathnan can be translated to ‘crown of ears’.
