Manchester United Line Up Bruno Fernandes

Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes is one of the six players nominated for the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award this year.

Although Fernandes was once again Man Utd’s standout performer, he was not at his world-class best. Playing 36 games in the English top-flight, Fernandes scored 8 goals and provided 10 assists.

The Red Devils finished 15th in the rankings, marking one of their worst-ever league campaigns in history.

PFA Players’ Player of the Year Nominees Confirmed: Mohamed Salah Leads Six-Man List

Mohamed Salah unsurprisingly leads the six-man shortlist for the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award in 2025. The Egyptian international scored a whopping 29 times and claimed 18 assists in 38 games in the Premier League. His heroics were integral to Liverpool’s ascension to the top-flight throne.

Alexis Mac Allister, who ran the show for Liverpool, has also made the cut. The Argentine star played 35 games in 2024/25, scoring 5 goals and claiming 5 assists. Mac Allister also helped out at the back, making 95 tackles, winning 170 duels, and registering 148 recoveries.

Cole Palmer enjoyed a blistering start to the 2024/25 Premier League season. He scored 12 goals and provided 6 assists before the end of the year. His numbers took a nosedive in the second half of the year, which makes his PFA Players’ Player of the Year nomination a bit controversial.

Alexander Isak, the unabashed talisman of Newcastle United, delivered another impressive campaign in 2024/25. The Swedish frontman contributed to 29 goals — 23 goals and 6 assists — in 34 games last season. His performances helped Newcastle finish fifth and book their place in the Champions League.

Declan Rice, who anchors the Arsenal midfield, tried his best to elevate the Gunners. He not only led verbally but also by example, showing exactly why he is rated so highly. Rice played 35 matches for Mikel Arteta’s team, scoring 4 times and providing 7 assists. He also won 120 duels, recorded 25 interceptions, blocked 15 shots, and attempted 53 tackles.

Bruno Fernandes was undoubtedly the best Man Utd player last season. But after the season his team had, his inclusion has come as a shock. The Portuguese playmaker, who contributed to 18 goals in 36 Premier League games, also received criticism for his on-pitch conduct from Man Utd legend Roy Keane.

Fans React as Bruno Fernandes Is Nominated for PFA Players’ Player of the Year

Fans have been vocal about Man Utd star Bruno Fernandes’ inclusion on the PFA Players’ Player of the Year shortlist. Many fans believe a player from a 15th-placed team does not deserve to make the PFA Players’ Player shortlist.

pfa poty nomination for barely scaping relegation

@Josh11LFC, meanwhile, found Fernandes’ inclusion hilarious. He was not too happy with Cole Palmer’s nomination either.

Liverpool fan @ArneSlotBall questioned why Virgil van Dijk did not make the cut when Fernandes and Palmer did.

Bruno Fernandes’ PFA Nomination Is Well Deserved – Man Utd Fans

While rival fanbases have mocked his inclusion, Man Utd fans believe it was well earned. Fernandes, who has always been a favourite, recently earned brownie points for rejecting a massive deal from Al Hilal.

One fan, @privilege_mufc, wrote on X (formerly Twitter):

Fellow professionals who against Bruno Fernandes every week think so highly of him but I’m supposed to believe twitter experts when they tell me that him staying is a bad thing for Man United.”

@UtdFaithfuls called it a “well deserved” nomination.

Bruno Fernandes has been nominated for the PFA Players’ Player of the Year award.

Well deserved recognition.”

@StretfordPaddck, meanwhile, noted that things could have been a lot worse for Man Utd had Fernandes not supplied key goals and assists.

Bruno Fernandes has been nominated for the PFA player of the year for 24/25,” the account posted.

Rightly so, no matter how bad United’s season was, it could’ve been a LOT worse without our Portuguese Magnifico.

The PFA Player’s Player of the Year will be honoured at the 52nd annual PFA Awards ceremony on August 19.
