Harvey Elliott has thanked Liverpool teammates Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk after sending England to the U21 European Championship final.
Elliott was the standout for England U21 as they beat the Netherlands U21 2-1 in the semi-final on Wednesday, June 25. The Liverpool man scored an excellent brace, netting in the 62nd and 85th minutes.
Elliott, who was also in England’s Euro U21-winning squad in 2023, has been the Young Lions’ most prolific player this summer. He has scored four goals in five matches for England in the 2025 Euro U21.
Harvey Elliott Credits Liverpool Teammates Mo Salah & Virgil van Dijk After England U21 Heroics
After delivering a heroic performance against the Dutch, England forward Harvey Elliott explained how Liverpool teammates Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk inspired his game.
Elliott said (via The Mirror):
“At so many moments throughout the season, the likes of Mohamed Salah have had to score important goals, winning goals.
“Towards the end of the season, Van Dijk came up and scored a header in the 90th minute. I think things like that, to not give up, to keep going to the final whistle and take these opportunities, I think that’s leadership.”
Elliott also discussed the importance of leading by example.

He added:
“You can speak as much as you want on the pitch, you can say whatever, but at the end of the day, when the moment comes and you need to show up, and you need to, for example, in my situation, score a goal.
“It’s about how you take that, and those opportunities are vital. Today I’m just so happy I was able to contribute and get the two goals to win us the game.”
Harvey Elliott Not Afraid of Facing Germany in Euro U21 Final
Germany beat France 3-0 in the second Euro U21 semi-final on Wednesday to book a date with England in the final. Germany not only have a superior head-to-head record against England, but they will also carry a psychological advantage into Sunday’s final.
They have beaten the Young Lions thrice in their last four meetings, including the 4-0 drubbing in the 2009 final. Despite Germany’s impressive track record, Harvey Elliott is confident that England can take them on.
“We all deserve to be here,” said Elliott.
“The moment we have fear within ourselves is the moment it goes wrong. I think now, especially after the Spain game, the fear isn’t there anymore.”

He added:
“We can take on any team, we can play to the best of our abilities, and we go into every game now thinking that we can win because we have the players, we have the squad, and we have the backing from the manager as well. There is no fear, it’s just about us going out and delivering, and we’re doing that at the minute.”
While Elliott has been thriving for England, his future at Liverpool is still up in the air. Brighton and Borussia Dortmund were keeping tabs on him earlier this year, whereas Wolverhampton Wanderers are the current leaders in the race for his services.
