British Grand Prix Livery

As Formula One returns to Silverstone, we’re taking a look at every special livery on show at this weekend’s British Grand Prix.

Dubbed ‘the home of motorsport’, Silverstone holds a special place on the calendar and in the hearts of many.

One of the oldest tracks still in use, it hosted the very first Formula One race in 1950.

While British Grand Prix drinks prices may be higher than ever, it doesn’t stop fans turning up in huge numbers for an incredible weekend.

And with seven of the ten teams having a base in the UK, there is a deep connection between F1 and Britain.

As a result, many teams run a special livery at the British Grand Prix.

But which cars on this year’s grid will be sporting a one-off look this weekend?

McLaren Chrome Livery Returns

McLaren British Grand Prix Livery

Championship leaders McLaren have looked unstoppable so far.

The Woking-based outfit love a special livery, and have already run a unique look at the Spanish and Monaco Grand Prix this season.

On both of those occasions, drivers Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris were victorious, winning a race each.

McLaren will be hoping that winning run continues for the team’s home race.

For this weekend, the livery is a throwback to McLaren’s classic and much-loved chrome livery, used from 2007-2013.

With principle sponsor Google featuring its Chrome web browser on the car, the matchup works perfectly.

There is still a lot of papaya visible, showing a blend of past and present on the car.

And there is also a subtle nod to the iconic red and white Marlboro design of the 1980s and 1990s, with a chevron pattern where the chrome and papaya meet at the front of the car.

Racing Bulls Silverstone Livery Divides Opinion

Reb Bull’s second team RB have what many consider the best regular livery on the grid in 2025.

The striking white with touches of Red Bull colours have caught they eye all season.

And their one-off pink livery at the Miami Grand Prix has been described as ‘perfection’ by some.

For Silverstone, RB have collaborated with Nigerian Street artist Slawn, adding a ‘doodle’ pattern to their regular livery.

The graffiti-style look covers the white areas of the car, giving an interesting new look to RB this weekend.

Slawn has worked with Rolex, Louis Vuitton and Ferrari in the past, and has also designed RB’s race suits and teamwear for the weekend.

But not everyone is a fan, with one Twitter (now X) user quipping: “Did a four-year-old design this?”

Williams Celebrate Home Race

The third team to change up their look, albeit only slightly, is Williams.

The British team has paid tribute to its roots with a subtle addition of red and white to its usual blue livery.

The Union Flag colours run along the nose and down the body of the car, adding some nice detail to an already sleek look.

On the nose cone, the team logo is displayed in British colours in another slight change.

Mercedes

The fourth team with a change to its livery this weekend is Mercedes – and it’s got plenty of people talking.

Although the usual silver, black and teal colours remain, Merc have added orange stars to the engine cover.

As well as the orange touches on their car, the Mercedes-AMG safety car has also been decked out in orange for the weekend.

The team says it’s to pay tribute to 75 years of Silverstone, but some are wondering if it’s a hint at recent talks with Dutch driver Max Verstappen.

According to reports, Verstappen has agreed a 2026 Mercedes move, replacing George Russell.

Where Is Silverstone?

Home to the British Grand Prix, Silvertsone straddles the Northamptonshire and Buckinghamshire border, just off the A43.

Nearby towns include Towcester, Brackley and Buckingham, with Milton Keynes the nearest city.

Silverstone takes its name from the former Royal Air Force bomber base on which it is built, RAF Silverstone.

The 1950 British Grand Prix was the first of the newly-created Formula One World Championship.
