UFC Qatar Announcement Sparks Debate From MMA Fans On Social Media

UFC President Dana White has announced a milestone event staged in Doha, Qatar later this year.

The announcement comes a week prior to the next UFC pay-per-view show, where the Max Holloway vs Dustin Poirier trilogy headlines for the BMF Title at UFC 318.

UFC Qatar will go down in Doha, the capital of the Middle East country, on November 22 at the ABHA Arena. The card will be a UFC Fight Night show, with fights set to be added in the coming months to this monumental event.

The announcement comes after the UFC have entered a strategic partnership with Visit Qatar, which was announced on Wednesday, July 9.

Abdulaziz Ali Al-Mawlawi, CEO of Visit Qatar Eng., released a statement on the exciting partnership and is looking forward to working with the UFC going forward:

“This collaboration marks a significant step that reflects our continued commitment to positioning Qatar as a leading global destination for major sporting events,” Al-Mawlawi said.

UFC Qatar marks the first time a UFC card will have been staged in the country. MMA has of course been heading to the Middle East for several years with shows in Abu Dhabi, but UFC Qatar marks the first event in Doha at the end of the year.

The UFC Qatar card announcement has unsurprisingly sparked huge debate on social media amongst MMA fans, with mixed responses. Some fans feel UFC Qatar shows further expansion of the UFC, with others more cynical and negative about the card.

MMA Fans Slam UFC Qatar Fight Card Announcement

This historic UFC Qatar card has had some mixed reviews from fans on social media, with the majority seeming to be disappointed in the Doha announcement.

Some fans have speculated just who could feature on the UFC Qatar card in November. Some fan want Ilia Topuria’s next fight to take place in Doha, with others preferring a showdown between fighters actually based in the Middle East.

No matter who fights on the historic UFC Qatar fight card, some fans are insisting that they have no intention of going. Some fans are excited at the announcement, but the majority of MMA fans aren’t as impressed.

Others feel that UFC Qatar will be another event in a soulless arena, with next to no homegrown talent showcasing their mixed martial arts skills on the card.

The general consensus is that Qatar are one of the richest countries in the world, hence why they want to bring the biggest and best sporting events to showcase their country.

There were some positive reactions to this UFC Qatar card announcement too, but they were few and far between.

One fan wrote: “Massive W, can’t wait to see the fights!”

Another wrote: “Great news. We need more events around the world instead of the Apex.”

“This is dope” and “this is a major step in the UFC’s expansion”, were another two positive comments from fans at the news that Dana White will be bringing the UFC roadshow to Doha later this year for a UFC Qatar event.
