Ronaldo’s ‘Siu’ Celebration Causes Injury
A footballer in the Brazilian lower leagues injured himself by doing Cristiano Ronaldo’s famed ‘siu’ celebration after scoring from a penalty on Wednesday evening.
It happened as Monte Azul hosted Gremio Prudente in the Copa Paulista.
The pair were separated by just one point in Group 1 heading into the clash, with Prudente topping the table, while Azulão occupied second place.
Monte Azul, who won the competition last year, led through Reidiner Cairu after 56 minutes. Had they held on to win, they would’ve moved to the top of the group.
That wasn’t quite the case however, as Paulo de Brito was given his marching orders for an awful high tackle, with Gremio Prudente being given a penalty as a result.
Kesley, who plied his trade in the Brazilian third tier last year, stepped up to the task.
His initial effort was saved by the hosts’ goalkeeper, who denied the forward with his legs, but the 30-year-old was first on the scene to turn home the rebound to level the parity.
And what better way to celebrate than by mirroring Ronaldo’s world-famous ‘siu’ celebration? Well, that decision proved costly for Kesley, as he ended up injured from doing so.
In the video, after Kesley lands during the celebration, he immediately goes down clutching his left leg. He was substituted for Augusto Cesar Goiaba just a minute later.
The score would remain level at 1-1 come the full-time whistle, despite Monte Azul being reduced to nine men after Lucas Gabriel de Oliveira picked up their second red card of the game.

Who Else Has Been Injured Doing Ronaldo’s Celebration?
There have been plenty of cases of players suffering injuries while celebrating over the years, but those trying to imitate CR7 seem to have particularly bad luck.
Back in November 2024, University of Memphis wide receiver Demeer Blankumsee injured himself by doing the celebration.
Having scored a 69-yard touchdown against the University of Texas, he decided to hit the ‘siu’ celebration. Like Kesley, as he landed, his knee ended up buckling backwards.
Blankumsee was left lying down injured on the sidelines in the aftermath.
Another example, also in November 2024, came when Serbia international Aleksa Terzic tried to replicate the celebration during a Nations League match against Switzerland.
After drawing his side level with less than 15 minutes to go, Terzic celebrated by mimicking Ronaldo. Unfortunately for the ex-Fiorentina star, he took a tumble and was left injured on the floor. Luckily though, he managed to get back to his feet and played on.
Ronaldo, who is closing in on 1000 career goals, continues to influence sport on a major scale.
The best betting sites in the UK currently have him at 100/1 to win the Ballon d’Or in 2025, having finished as the Saudi Pro League top scorer last term, doing so for a second consecutive season. Additionally, he won a second Nations League title with Portugal back in June.
