Did Scottie Scheffler fart – or was it a spectator? The opening day of the 153rd Open Championship at Royal Portrush wasn’t blessed with the best of weather, which was added to by some ‘high winds’ by a golf fan when they were caught on camera FARTING after world number one Scottie Scheffler hit a shot.

At first it sounded like there was a Scottie Scheffler fart straight after he hit a cracking iron shot onto the par-4 17th in his opening round at the 2025 Open Championship on Thursday.
However, it’s since come to light that it was a golf fan that broke wind – just managing to hold it in until Scheffler had at least played his shot.
The hilarious moment was caught on camera. Leaving commentators in stitches.
What made the clip even funnier is just before the Scottie Scheffler fart incident the commentator unknowingly said “Downwind you can get onto this green”.
Little did he know a fan would help with that ‘downwind’ by assisting with a mega fart that was so loud the microphones picked it up (watch below).
Broadcaster Andrew Cotter responded to his co-commentator with just a “What are you laughing about?”
Replying “Just a little bit of wind from behind”

The good news for Scheffler is the fart actually seemed to help his ball as the world number one fired that iron shot onto the green on the 17th.
Which ended in the former Masters champion rolling in the putt for birdie.
He ended his 2025 day one Open Championship round -3 and is firmly in contention to win his first Claret Jug.
Scottie Scheffler The Big Favourite To Win His First Claret Jug
The best golf betting sites in the UK agree too – making Scheffler the big favourite going into Friday and the weekend at 5/2.
In contrast to Scheffler’s decent first round, home bred Rory McIlroy had a mixed day.
However, McIlroy, who hit a Portrush course record 61 aged just 16, recovered well on the final holes to end -1. He’s still the second favourite in the market at 8/1 going into day two.
The pair will continue their charge to land the big Open Championship prize money purse, which stands at $17m and $3.1m to the winner.
