Rangers Jamie Vardy

Rangers are odds-on favourites to sign Premier League legend Jamie Vardy this summer following his Leicester City exit.

Rangers Favourites To Sign Jamie Vardy

Scottish Premiership giants Rangers are favourites to sign Jamie Vardy this summer.

Vardy left Leicester City after his contract expired at the end of June, and the 2019/20 Premier League Golden Boot winner has been linked with moves to a whole host of clubs.

The likes of Wrexham, Birmingham, New York Red Bulls, Valencia and more are all among those that have been touted as potential destinations for the 38-year-old ahead of next season.

But bookmakers believe Glasgow is his most likely destination. The best football betting sites in the UK have him at around 4/6 to join Russell Martin and co. at Ibrox on a free transfer.

Rangers’ bitter rivals Celtic had also been loosely linked with a move, where he would’ve been reunited with former Foxes teammate Kasper Schmeichel and ex-boss Brendan Rodgers.

Premier League sides Nottingham Forest, Everton, Leeds, Manchester United, Crystal Palace, Wolves, Burnley and Sunderland are among those listed in the betting market as well.

Vardy departs the King Power as arguably Leicester’s greatest ever player. He spent 13 years with the club, during which he won the English top-flight in 2015/16 and the FA Cup in 2020/21.

He netted a total of 143 Premier League goals for the Foxes, making him their most prolific striker in the division. In total, he scored 200 in 500 appearances for the club across all competitions.

Not only did Vardy star at club level during his fairytale spell in the East Midlands, but also at international level. He debuted for England in 2016 and amassed a total of 26 caps and seven goals for his country, turning out at the 2016 European Championship and the 2018 World Cup.

Are Rangers Actually In For Vardy?

The ‘Gers may be favoured by the bookies, but are they actually in for Vardy?

According to reports, they have been exploring a deal to land the experienced forward.

Dan King from The Sun backed the Scottish side to beat Wrexham to his signature in a report on Sunday, 20 July, but maintained that links between Vardy and Rangers have cooled for now.

King wrote: The Premier League legend [Vardy] is being uncharacteristically slow to make his next move.

“Which raises the intriguing possibility that Vardy could yet fill one of the few holes on his CV – playing for a ‘big’ club.

“With all due respect to Wrexham, that’s not them, despite their Hollywood connections and Netflix-able rise through the divisions.

“You could argue that Rangers remain a massive global name, thanks to their rich history and the millions of ex-pat Scots around the world.”

He concluded: “But the links between Vardy and Rangers, like the rumours about him and Wrexham, have gone cold for now.”
