The opening weekend of the Scottish Premiership sees Motherwell host Rangers on Saturday, and our betting tips for the clash can be backed in an 11/2 bet builder.
Rangers kickstart their 2025/26 Scottish Premiership campaign away at Motherwell on Saturday.
Russell Martin’s side head into the tie in strong form, having defeated Greek Super League outfit Panathinaikos 3-1 over two legs in the Champions League second qualifying round.
The Gers secured a 2-0 victory in the first leg at Ibrox, in which 18-year-old academy star Findlay Curtis scored, and played out a 1-1 stalemate in the second leg out in Athens.
They face Viktoria Plzen of the Czech Republic in the third qualifying round.
Additionally, they have had some decent run-outs in pre-season, playing out draws against Belgian outfit Club Brugge and English Championship side Middlesbrough in recent weeks.
Rangers head to Fir Park looking for revenge against the Well, having failed to beat the North Lanarkshire club in three of their last four league meetings, including a 2-1 loss last time out.
Motherwell are also in strong form ahead of the clash. They came out on top in all four of their Scottish League Cup group stage matches earlier in the month to finish top of Group G, overcoming Clyde, Peterhead, Stenhousemuir and Greenock Morton.
Jens Askou’s side hosted Hertha Berlin in a friendly last week too, playing out a 1-1 draw.
Unsurprisingly, it is the visitors that are favoured to come out on top on Saturday. The Gers are priced at around 2/5 by football betting sites to kick off the league season with three points.
Motherwell vs Rangers Betting Tips
- Rangers to Win @ 2/5
- Both Teams to Score – Yes @ 4/6
- Djeidi Gassama to Score at Any Time @ 21/10
Rangers to Win @ 2/5
Despite Rangers being one of the dominant forces in Scottish football, their head-to-head record with Motherwell across their last five meetings in all competitions is split even.
The pair boast two wins apiece, with the other clash ending in a 2-2 stalemate.
Their last meeting, as previously mentioned, ended in a shock 2-1 win for the Well at Ibrox back in March, with Luke Armstrong and Tom Sparrow netting for the underdogs.
We can’t envisage a similar scenario this time around though, as the Gers look to be a different force under new manager Martin, having already secured a huge win over Panathinaikos.
Looking to build on that result and to build more momentum ahead of next week’s Champions League third round qualifying first leg, we’re backing the visitors to prevail at 2/5.
Both Teams to Score – Yes @ 4/6
Although we expect Rangers to win, we can certainly see them shipping a goal.
Martin’s style of play is focused on playing the ball out from the back, and with changes likely to give players a rest for Europe, there could be some teething issues at the back.
Additionally, Motherwell have a strong record in scoring against the Glaswegians, having scored at least once in each of their last five meetings across all competitions.
With that in mind, we’re backing ‘Both Teams to Score – Yes’ in this one, priced at 4/6.
Djeidi Gassama to Score at Any Time @ 21/10
Having joined from Sheffield Wednesday for a reported £2.2m fee in mid-July, Djeidi Gassama is already impressing the Ibrox faithful.
Despite not starting either leg of their Champions League triumph over Panathinaikos, he scored in both matches, and we expect that he’ll have forced his way into the lineup for this one.
The Frenchman will likely feature on the left wing.
Priced at 21/10, we see great value in backing the 21-year-old to score at any time at Fir Park.
