Watch the moment Luis Suarez attempted an audacious chip from the halfway line for Inter Miami against Orlando City, only to be denied by Pedro Gallese.
Luis Suarez Tries Audacious Halfway Line Chip as Inter Miami Defeated
Inter Miami striker Luis Suarez came close to scoring an incredible chip from the halfway line on Sunday, but Orlando City stopper Pedro Gallese expertly denied the Uruguayan.
The Herons, who were without star man Lionel Messi due to a muscular injury, headed into the tie off the back of a five game unbeaten run across all competitions.
Their most recent MLS outings, a 5-1 win over New York Red Bulls and a 0-0 draw against Cincinnati, were followed by Leagues Cup victories over Atlas, Necaxa and Pumas.
They were also in FIFA Club World Cup action in June, where they were eliminated following a 4-0 loss to PSG. Zlatan Ibrahimovic described Inter Miami as a ‘circus’ in the wake of the defeat.
Returning to league action, Javier Mascherano’s side didn’t get off to the best of starts.
Just two minutes into the Florida Derby at the Exploria Stadium, Orlando took the lead. Former Atalanta and Colombia frontman Luis Muriel opened the scoring.
Inter Miami struck back instantly however, with Italian central midfielder Yannick Bright volleying home the leveller from the edge of the penalty box with less than five minutes on the clock.
Similarly to the first half, the hosts flew out of the blocks in the second period.
Muriel was on hand to restore the Lions’ advantage in the 50th minute. Just minutes later, he assisted Martin Ojeda to extend Orlando’s lead to 3-1 before the hour mark.
Looking to inspire a comeback, ex-Liverpool and Barcelona star Suarez tried his luck with an audacious chip from distance. The 38-year-old spotted Gallese off his line and looked to lob the Peruvian, who tipped the effort over the bar with a brilliant stop at the final moment.
Gallese suffered a knee injury for his troubles. Luckily, he was able to continue despite looking to be in some real discomfort, as Orlando added a fourth late on to seal a 4-1 triumph.

The Lions move up to fourth in the MLS table with the victory, while Inter Miami drop down to sixth place. Suarez and co. remain favoured by UK betting sites to win the Eastern Conference.
Additionally, Messi is the favourite to end the regular season as the league’s top goalscorer.
He currently sits on 18 goals for the campaign, level with former Nottingham Forest striker Sam Surridge, who now plays for Nashville SC, priced at 5/6 to win the Golden Boot.
Up next, Inter Miami host LA Galaxy in the early hours of Sunday morning, where they’ll be looking to bounce back ahead of their Leagues Cup quarter-final against Tigres.
Orlando, meanwhile, return to action against Kansas City, also on Sunday morning.
