Premier League representatives Tottenham Hotspur will host LaLiga outfit Villarreal in their first match of the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League season.Β
Spurs finished 17th in the Premier League in the 2024/25 season, but they won the UEFA Europa League at Manchester United’s expense. As a result, the Premier League has a record six representatives in the Champions League this season.
Villarreal, on the other hand, grabbed the fifth and last slot in the LaLiga rankings last season to qualify for the Champions League. They finished on 70 points, level with Athletic Bilbao. The Basque side claimed the fourth spot due to their superior head-to-head record.
Villarreal are 6/4 with UK betting sites to secure a top-four finish in LaLiga this season.
In-Form Tottenham Have the Edge Over Villarreal
Tottenham Hotspur have enjoyed a brisk start under Thomas Frank this season. They kicked off the campaign with a 3-0 victory over newly promoted Burnley at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Followed it up with a statement 2-0 win over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. And in their final outing, they beat West Ham United 3-0 away from home.
Their only setback came against Bournemouth on Matchday 3. Evanilson’s fifth-minute strike saw them succumb to a 1-0 defeat at home against the Cherries. With nine points on the board, the Lilywhites are third in the Premier League rankings, with only Liverpool scoring more points (12) in the English top flight.
Tottenham Hotspur will have to continue managing life without James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski. Yves Bissouma and Mathys Tel will also sit this one out, having been kept out of Spurs’ Champions League squad for Matchday 1. Additionally, striker Dominic Solanke is a major doubt for the match.

Villarreal are also stretched thin, especially at the back. Marcelino is without Logan Costa, Willy Kambwala, and Pau Cabanes, while Gerard Moreno is a doubt. The Yellow Submarine also face a tight turnaround, as they played a demanding LaLiga match against Atletico Madrid away at the Metropolitano Stadium on Sunday.
Villarreal were on an unbeaten run before their 2-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid on Matchday 4. They beat Real Oviedo 2-0 and Girona 5-0 in the first two matches before playing out a 1-1 draw away at Celta Vigo.
On paper, hosts Tottenham Hotspur seem to have the edge. They have the more in-form team, will play at home, and despite injuries, have more match-winners at their disposal.
Spurs are not the only Premier League side in action on Tuesday. Their north London rivals. Arsenal will travel to San Mames for their match against Athletic Bilbao. According to Athletic Bilbao vs Arsenal stats, the Gunners have the chance to become the first team to beat Spanish clubs in six consecutive matches.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Villarreal Prediction and Best Bet
Tottenham Hotspur seem to be the more sorted team going into the match on Tuesday. While they have dropped the ball on a few occasions in the past, we will be very surprised if they do not win at home against Villarreal on Matchday 1.

Simons is still adjusting in England, but we have a hunch that he is up for the challenge against Villarreal. While a goal night not arrive, an assist seems more than likely.
