Terence Crawford Ilia Topuria - Boxing

Talk of an Ilia Topuria vs Terence Crawford showdown in a boxing ring has gathered momentum after the latest social media exchange.

Topuria has hit back at an interview Crawford did with Ariel Helwani, after originally stating he would knock the three-weight undisputed boxing champion out if they ever fought in the ring.

Ilia Topuria Responds To Terence Crawford Digs On Social Media

Fresh off the back of his monumental victory over Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, Terence Crawford has become one of the biggest stars in world boxing and arguably one of the greatest fighters of all time.

Crawford was the pre-fight underdog with boxing betting sites to beat the great ‘Canelo’ this past weekend in Las Vegas, but did so with relative ease. The American extended his record to a perfect 42-0 with a fairly convincing unanimous decision victory over the Mexican boxing icon.

In the aftermath of his career-defining triumph, Crawford was called out by a whole host of fellow boxers. He was also called out by two-division UFC king and reigning lightweight champion Ilia Topuria.

Topuria said recently that he would knock Crawford out in the boxing ring inside one round, with Crawford himself then hitting back in interview with MMA journalist Ariel Helwani.

Now, further fuel has been added to the fire after Topuria has once again responded and called out the undisputed world super-middleweight boxing champion.

It remains to be seen who Terence Crawford’s next fight will be against, or whether he may well retire as an all-time great. Whatever his next move is may take time, with a boxing showdown with ‘El Matador’ now seemingly another option.

Topuria to Crawford: ‘Your Memory Fails You… And Soon Your Chin Will Too’

In his latest jibe at five-weight world champion Terence Crawford on social media, Ilia Topuria has called for a showdown one and for all with ‘Bud’.

It seems the Spanish-Georgian MMA phenom is happy to try his trade inside the boxing ring, seemingly calling Crawford out for a #1 pound-for-pound clash.

Topuria is currently #1 in the latest pound-for-pound UFC rankings, with Crawford #1 with many boxing fans in the P4P list too.

It seems that ‘El Matador’ is keen on a boxing showdown with the 37-year-old, and is happy to ditch the cage for a fight with the first three-weight undisputed champion in boxing history.

Although the fight seems highly unlikely to actually happen, the back and forth between Topuria and Crawford has been entertaining for fight fans:

“You say you’re an MMA fan but you don’t even know who I am… interesting. The first time we met you told me ‘good luck this week with your fight.’

“Your memory fails you… and soon your chin will too. I’ll represent the entire MMA community. Pound-for-pound #1 in real fights vs the pound-for-pound boxer,” wrote ‘El Matador’ on social media.

Will The Ilia Topuria vs Terence Crawford Fight Happen In Boxing?

Despite their back and forth, it seems highly unlikely that Ilia Topuria vs Terence Crawford will actually happen inside the boxing ring.

Crawford has just been crowned the undisputed super-middleweight boxing champion, with plenty of potential fights being put his way inside the ring.

Similarly, Ilia Topuria’s next fight is sure to be announced imminently, with the undefeated two-division UFC champion looking to make a successful first defence of his 155-pound belt in his next outing.

There has of course been a boxing and UFC crossover before. Conor McGregor traded the octagon for the ring when fighting Floyd Mayweather, which turned out to be one of the most-watched fights in history.

However, Mayweather, the seasoned boxer and all-time great, toyed with the Irishman before stopping him later in the fight once McGregor was tired.

It’s highly unlikely that Crawford vs Topuria happens inside the boxing ring anytime soon, or ever. That being said, it isn’t totally impossible, just highly improbable.
