Gerwyn Price Injury

The reason for Gerwyn Price’s sudden withdrawal from the Hungarian Darts Trophy on Sunday has been revealed.

‘The Iceman’ was set to face Luke Littler in the Hungarian Darts Trophy quarter-finals, but withdrew just minutes before the match was scheduled to take place.

Why Did Gerwyn Price Withdraw From Hungarian Darts Trophy?

Just as he was preparing for a tantalising quarter-final clash at the 2025 Hungarian Darts Trophy with Luke Littler, Gerwyn Price was forced to withdraw from the tournament just minutes before his match.

‘The Iceman’ was in action this past weekend in Budapest, reaching the quarter-final of the Hungarian Darts Trophy before he has to withdraw due to a medical emergency.

Price defeated Richard Veenstra 6-2 in Round 2 before dispatching of Raymond van Barneveld by the same scoreline in the Last 16, setting up a mouth-watering tie with ‘The Nuke’ in the quarter-finals on Sunday.

However, just minutes before his match with Littler, Price suddenly withdrew from the event. This meant that Littler received a walk-over victory and progressed to the semi-final without having to throw a dart.

Littler was favourite with UK betting apps to beat Price in their quarter-final clash, but didn’t even have to throw a single dart to advance to the semi-final stage.

Dan Dawson has to bear the bad new to the MVM Dome in Budapest that Price had withdrawn from the event due to medical reason. However, Price himself has now revealed the real reason for his sudden withdrawal.

“Not sure if I caught a 24hr bug but that’s what I’m hoping and it doesn’t hang around, was really ill all day Sunday, hopefully it goes today. Thanks everyone for the messages🤒 Price wrote on his Instagram story on Monday morning.

The Welshman has struggled with a repeated hand injury in recent weeks, with some fans speculating this could be the real reason for his withdrawal. However, Price himself has now confirmed that it was due to medical reasons, specifically an intense 24-hour bug.

Will Price Be Fit For Swiss Darts Trophy This Weekend?

With Gerwyn Price being forced to withdraw from the Hungarian Darts Trophy this past weekend, darts fans are wondering whether ‘The Iceman’ will be back to full health in time for the Swiss Darts Trophy this coming weekend.

All of the best players in world darts head to Basel, Switzerland this Friday for the upcoming ET13 event. This will be the penultimate European Tour event of the year, with the last coming in October.

Price remains in the field for the Swiss Dart Trophy at this current moment, but may be forced to withdraw from the event entirely if he doesn’t recover in time from his sudden illness.

The Welshman has been in red-hot form of late, winning a Players Championship event less than a fortnight ago and regularly posting 100+ averages. He’s even landed a couple of 170-checkouts too.

However, that might not be the case for the Swiss Darts Trophy at the St. Jakobshalle in Basel this weekend if he can’t get back to full fitness in time.

The 2025 Swiss Darts Trophy doesn’t start until Friday, with Price not scheduled to play until Saturday in Round 2. It’s a race against the clock for ‘The Iceman’ to see if he’s fit enough to participate after his Hungarian Darts Trophy withdrawal.

Fingers crossed the Welshman gets back to full health and can compete this weekend at the Swiss Darts Trophy for ET13.

If he does, Gerwyn Price’s net worth could once again increase if he gets his hands on some of the £175,000 prize money on offer.
