Charles Oliveira - UFC

Charles Oliveira vs Mateusz Gamrot will headline UFC Rio following Rafael Fiziev pulling out of the fight due to injury.

The fight is set to be contested at lightweight on October 11 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Charles Oliveira vs Mateusz Gamrot Confirmed For UFC Rio

It has been confirmed that Charles Oliveira vs Mateusz Gamrot is in the works for the new UFC Rio main event on October 11 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

This comes after Rafael Fiziev, who was scheduled to fight Oliveira in the UFC Rio main event, was forced to withdraw for the upcoming bout due to sustaining an injury in training camp.

Fiziev’s loss is Gamrot’s gain, who looks like he has got the call and will step in on three weeks notice to face the former UFC Lightweight Champion in his home country.

As the home fighter and higher ranked 155-pound contender, Oliveira is the slight favourite with UFC betting sites to defeat Gamrot in the UFC Rio main event.

That being said, this is far from an easy fight for ‘Do Bronx’. He may well have to silence some doubted after the way he lost his last fight inside a round to Ilia Topuria for the UFC Lightweight Title.

Gamrot on the other hand has nothing to lose here and everything to gain. Should he beat the Brazilian hometown hero in front of his own fans, he could catapult himself right into the title picture at lightweight.

It’s likely that regardless of who wins the Oliveira vs Gamrot UFC Rio main event on October 11, they will need at least one more big win against a top 155-pound contender before a shot at the belt.

There is so much riding on Oliveira vs Gamrot now at UFC Rio, which is set to be officially announced by UFC President Dana White imminently. What a fight on just three weeks notice!

Who Will The Oliveira vs Gamrot Favourite Be At UFC Rio?

With Charles Oliveira’s next fight all but confirmed against Mateusz Gamrot at UFC Rio, MMA fans will be looking at the latest odds ahead of the lightweight match-up.

With the fight yet to be officially confirmed by UFC President Dana White, odds for Oliveira vs Gamrot are yet to be published.

That being said, as the #4 ranked Oliveira is likely to be the slight favourite to beat the #8 ranked Gamrot in their UFC Rio main event.

The fight itself could have title implications going forward, depending on what happens with Ilia Topuria vs Paddy Pimblett next and whether ‘El Matador’ opts for a move up to welterweight in the aftermath.

It’s fair to say that ‘Do Bronx’ requires a couple more wins before he can think of a UFC Lightweight Title shot again. The same can be said for Gamrot, who himself is looking to launch into the 155-pound title picture.

The winner of Oliveira vs Gamrot will undoubtedly get a big fight next, that’s for sure. The likes of Max Holloway, Dan Hooker and Justin Gaethje could all be fights for early next year for the winner of the UFC Rio main event.

First and foremost though, Charles Oliveira vs Mateusz Gamrot must get officially announced as the replacement fight for UFC Rio with Rafael Fiziev out injured. Once announced, expect the Brazilian to be a marginal favourite with price-setters.
