Andy Newton's Newmarket Horse Racing Tips

Another busy day at British horse racing HQ on Saturday for their final day of the Cambridgeshire Meeting – you can see Andy Newton’s Newmarket horse racing tips and 1-2-3 best bets for the four LIVE ITV Racing contests.

ITV Horse Racing Tips: FOUR LIVE Races At Newmarket On Saturday

It’s the third and final day of the Cambridgeshire Meeting at Newmarket this Saturday – with the ITV Racing schedule on the Rowley Mile track to take in four races LIVE.

These include the Group One Cheveley Park Stakes (2:25pm), which can often be a good guide to next season’s 1,000 Guineas – but the last horse to win both races was Special Duty back in 2009/10.

We’ve also got the Group One Middle Park Stakes (3pm) – where Godolphin’s Wise Approach is expected to take the bulk of the market.

But the big betting race on the day is the Cambridgeshire Handicap (3:40pm), with a big field of 35 runners will do battle over the straight 1m 1f – it’s a race trainer John Gosden has won a record five times, so anything he runs has to be respected.

Andy Newton takes a look at each of the four live ITV races below.

We also have horse racing tips daily that give FOUR best bets in a Lucky 15, plus we highlight any horses that are running that won the same races last year.

Plus, you can follow Andy on his ‘X’ handle @NewtsDailyLays where he also picks out one horse each day to take on (lay).

And also see him each week on the FINAL FURLONG podcast giving his weekend best bets.

1:50 – Newmarket: Tattersalls Online Royal Lodge Stakes (Group 2) Cl1 (2yo) 1m ITV

Humidity has had a top season – winning at Royal Ascot in June (Chesham) – and then certainly not disgraced when 7th in the Vintage at Goodwood and a close second in the Solario Stakes.

Another bold run looks on the cards, but is up to 1m here for the first time.

But one horse we know stays this 1m trip is BOW ECHO – having powered home over this distance in the Ascendant Stakes at Haydock last time.

That win came at Listed level so another step up is needed, but this unbeaten George Boughey colt is already getting quotes of 14/1 for the 2000 Guineas next season and is taken to continue his progress.

Aidan O’Brien has won the race seven times in the past – he had seven entries earlier in the week and has come down on Action.

This Frankel colt was a nice winner at Galway last time out in a maiden over 1m 1/2f so the trip is fine and also holds entries in the Dewhurst and Futurity.

He’s very much respected having had 56 days to freshen up and is already 16/1 for the 2000 Guineas next season – he’s taken to follow home Bow Echo.

2:25 – Newmarket: Tattersalls Sceptre Sessions Cheveley Park Stakes (Group 1) Cl1 (2yo) 6f ITV

The last Cheveley Park Stakes winner to land the 1000 Guineas the following season was Special Duty in 2009 – with last year’s winner Lake Victoria only 6th.

This run might continue too, as this season’s renewal doesn’t look the strongest, so it could be best left to ROYAL FIXATION.

Trained by Ed Walker, this Palace Pier filly was a nice winner of the Lowther Stakes at York the last day – staying on well to overhaul America Queen, who runs again here.

She had one length to spare at the line so the Richard Hughes-trained runner-up has a bit to find.

The good ground will suit the pick too – with all three runs coming on good-to-firm and she’s taken to follow Fairyland, who won the Lowther and Cheveley Park Stakes in 2018.

Royal Fixation Fancied For 1000 Guineas Next Season

Royal Fixation is 20/1 with the horse racing betting sites for next season’s 1000 Guineas – a price that should tighten up a tad if taking this.

Of the rest, trainer Aidan O’Brien has won five of the last nine runnings – including last year – so his Queen Mary Stakes winner True Love and Beautify are certainly respected too.

The first-named needs to bounce back from being beaten at odds-on in the Phoenix Stakes, but that might have just come a bit soon after winning the Railway Stakes and a 49 day break will help.

Beautify will be popular too after a top second last time in the G1 Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh over 7f. The drop back to 6f will suit and it’s interesting she’s out only 13 days after that run – will it be too soon?

While other stats to note are 80% of the last 10 winners coming from gates 3-9. With stall 6 a hot berth – winning six of the last 23 (26%).

🥉TRUE LOVE

3:00 – Newmarket: Tattersalls Middle Park Stakes (Group 1) Cl1 (2yo) 6f ITV

Yet another race Aidan O’Brien has a decent record in – with seven successes over the years.

But he might struggle to add to that with Brussels and Kansas not looking Ballydoyle superstars as yet.

We’ve also not seen many winners go onto win the 2000 Guineas, with the last Rodrigo De Triano in 1991/92.

Other stats to note are just two winners in the last 22 from stall 1 (Hilitany), but 7 of the last 9 have hailed from gates 1-4.

Wise Approach Brings The Best Form To The Table

WISE APPROACH seems to set the standard after a third in the Prix Morny last time (watch below) and that form has been franked since with the second Gstaad running the very classy Zavateri close in the National Stakes since.

The time of that race in France was also very good – it’s the best form line in the race.

He’s the one to beat and will be trying to give Charlie Appleby a third success in this race – but is well found in the market too.

Of the rest, The Publican’s Son was a fair second on debut to Mission Central, but that horse failed to uphold that form in Flying Childers next time.

But despite this, it’s interesting he’s so short in the market – so any more support, with Oisin Murphy booked, will give his backers more confidence.

With 20 of the last 23 winners winning last time out then – Hilitany and Five Ways catch the eye too. Plus, this is a stat the hot favourite Wise Approach has to overcome.

Hilitany is interesting – winning well at Windsor the last twice, but this is a step up.

While FIVE WAYS (e/w) also looks over-priced, having been gutsy to take the G3 Sirenia Stakes at Kempton last time out and should have more to come with only three runs.

Draw 2 looks ideal based on the stats too and Jason Watson, who has ridden him in all three races so far, remains in the saddle.

Coppull also looks fair value too – if you can ignore his last run in France, which did come behind Wise Approach.

Before that he was a nice winner of the G2 Champagne Stakes at Goodwood and the second that day Puerto Rico has franked the form to win since.

3:40 – Newmarket: bet365 Cambridgeshire Cl2 (3yo+) 1m1f ITV

With 20+ runners here then a tricky puzzle to unravel again – like every year.

The Cambridgeshire trends can help though, with some of these telling us all of the last 23 winners were aged 6 or younger.

Eight of the last 9 have come from stalls 21+ too and trainer John Gosden has the best record in the race with five wins – he runs Fifth Column and Westridge.

Treble Tee has been popular all week after a nice win at Doncaster last time. He beat another runner Cash into second there (4lbs better off) – but the stats tell us draw 7 isn’t ideal.

Take Three Against The Field

So, the three I like are FORT GEORGE, TREASURE TIME and BOILING POINT.

Fort George is up 9lbs for a recent Newbury win, but the time was good and it’s interesting that jockey Oisin Murphy, who also rode Treble Tee the last day, picks this Ed Walker runner.

The yard is also 24% with their 3 year-olds here and was also a course winner back in May so we know the track suits.

Draw 10 is a small worry, but being in the middle will at least give Murphy some options.

Treasure Time has draw 21 – where two of the last eight winners have come from. This William Haggas runner looks a bit one-paced (4th) in his last race at the Shergar Cup so the slightly longer trip will suit and has been freshened up with 49 days off.

Finally, Boiling Point will be the top-weight – but the last two winners of this carried 9-12. He also represents last year’s winning connections – trainer, owner and jockey.

He was last seen running a close second to King Of Cities in the G3 Strensall Stakes at York (watch below) and has a top record here on the Rowley Mile 2-2-1.

He’s a group horse and listed winner stepping down into a handicap and despite the low draw (6) could be the class act in the race. On a plus, last year’s winner defied the draw stat too – winning from gate 4.
