As always, a competitive field will head to post for Sunday’s big race in France, with one of the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe favourites looking likely to be the Aidan O’Brien-trained Minnie Hauk, who hasn’t lost a race this year.
But with a name that might not be recognisable to some, we investigated just who the Aidan O’Brien-trained Minnie Hauk is named after and also offer a reason why she might have got her name.
Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe Favourite Minnie Hauk Bidding To Give Aidan O’Brien A Third Arc
French trainer André Fabre is the winning-most handler in the history of the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe with a remarkable eight wins.
His first in 1987 with Trempolino and his most recent in 2019 with Waldgeist – so anything the legendary home-based trainer runs on Sunday has to be respected.
But, in contrast, Aidan O’Brien is still some way adrift of Fabre, with just the two Arc successes – Dylan Thomas (2007) and Found (2016).
The Ballydoyle maestro, however, looks to have a good chance of adding to those two wins – with expected Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe favourite MINNIE HAUK.
This daughter of Frankel still needs to be supplemented for the race – but that is expected to happen on Wednesday.
Minnie Hauk has been one of the stable stars for O’Brien this season, winning four ‘Oaks’ races – the Cheshire Oaks, Epsom Oaks, Irish Oaks and Yorkshire Oaks.
And in the process has now won £981,091 in total prize money.
Sunday’s race will also be shown live on the ITV Racing schedule as she looks to break through the £1m barrier.
The Arc is the richest Group One in Europe and worth £2,361,157 to the winner.

How Did Minnie Hauk Get Her Name?
At first glance some might just think Minnie Hauk, is actually ‘Hawk’ and, therefore, named after the bird.
But the ‘eagle-eyed’ (no pun intended) out there would have seen the ‘w’ has been replaced by a ‘u’ in Hauk – so what’s all this about?
Just who is MINNIE HAUK?
Step forward an American operatic soprano.

Amailia Mignon Hauck lived between 1851 and 1929 and was known as Minnie Hauk.
She was born in New York City and the only child of a German emigrant, who married an American.
Hauk grew up in Rhode Island and Kansas and went onto to become of the world’s best opera singers of her generation – landing a place with the Max Maretzek Italian Opera Company.
She made her singing debut aged just 14 in Brookyln as Amina in La sonnambula.
Minnie Hauk also travelled the world singing – belting out numbers in Europe at Covent Garden in 1868 and also sang in Paris in 1869.
While she also appeared in Italian and German opera at the Grand Opera in Vienna.
Is Minnie Hauk’s Breeding A Clue To Her Name?
Minnie Hauk also interpreted the role of Carmen – which she was remarkably able to sing in FOUR different languages.
And this is probably how the horse Minnie Hauk got her name.
Why?
Well the equine Hauk’s dam is a horse called Multilingual, who was trained by John Gosden and owned by Juddmonte.
She only raced once and finished 6th in a Newbury maiden in April 2015.
But is sired by Dansili, who was a three-time Group winner in France and a neck runner-up in the 2000 Breeders’ Cup mile at Churchill Downs.
We know how this Sunday’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe favourite Minnie Hauk got her name.
So all those backing her will be hoping she can ‘hit the high notes’ at Longchamp – just like her namesake.
Girl Power A Big Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe Plus
Minnie Hauk fans will also be glad to hear that ‘Girl Power’ in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe has been a big plus in recent years.
Since 2016 there have been FIVE filly or mare winners of Europe’s richest Group One race – including last year with Bluestocking (watch below).
With Enable (2017 and 2018), Found (2016) and Alpinista (2022) the other female winners in this period.
Being a 3 year-old filly, will also mean Minnie Hauk will get both the age and fillies’ allowance – meaning she’ll have only 8st 9lbs to carry.
Minnie Hauk will be one of two Aidan O’Brien Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe runners for the yard. He also runs Prix Foy fourth Los Angeles.
