Toby Moore

Toby Moore, the 17-year-old son of legendary jockey Ryan, will have his first professional ride on Friday when he partners Godolphin filly Valdorcia in the opening race at Kempton (4:05pm).

Whilst his father is currently on the sidelines through injury, Toby will make his highly anticipated riding debut up against top jockeys like Rob Hornby and 2024 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe-winning rider Rossa Ryan.

Moore will claim what could be a handy 7lb when he attempts to steer this daughter of Oasis Dream home on Friday in the 6f Fillies’ Novice Stakes at 4:05pm at Kempton on their AW track.

The horse is trained by Charlie Appleby, who has a decent 23% SR with his juveniles at the Sunbury-On-Thames venue.

Valdorcia was easy to back when making a moderate debut over course and distance just over two weeks ago.

However, it looks like she should have what it takes to better that third here.

The race comes just over an hour after the Group One Fillies’ Mile at Newmarket on Friday – a race Toby’s dad Ryan has won three times and will be shown on a busy ITV Racing schedule that afternoon.

You can catch the Kempton race on Racing TV.

The Teenager is no stranger to the saddle though, and has ridden since a young age after coming through the pony racing circuit.

Back in May, Toby joined father Ryan on Newmarket’s famous Rowley Mile as they worked Godolphin duo Olympus Point and Diamond Rain.

Toby has been a member of Charlie Appleby’s team at Moulton Paddocks since last winter, and it looks like his hard work behind the scenes is paying off.

Valdorcia could end up going off a short-priced favourite on Friday, with punters likely to get stuck in – after all, it would be a fairytale start to Moore jnr’s professional riding career.

The two-year-old filly does hold another entry for next week in a similar event at Lingfield, but it would be unlike trainer Appleby to give her two races in such a short space of time.

If Valdorcia was to get off the mark on Friday, he would become the latest Moore to win their first race under rules.

His father Ryan also made a winning debut aboard Mersey Beat over hurdles at Towcester in 2000.

Three years later, Ryan became Champion Apprentice – could this be a sign of things to come?
