Andrew Robertson was voted the worst player on the pitch for Liverpool in Wednesday’s Carabao Cup defeat to Crystal Palace – despite having played more times for the Reds than most of his teammates combined.

It was a night to forget for Arne Slot’s Liverpool, and especially for Andrew Robertson.

The Scotland international had a torrid time against Crystal Palace.

Playing on the left of a back three, Robertson was exposed badly, as the veteran was run ragged by a ruthless Palace attack.

Two goals from Ismaila Sarr on the stroke of half time put the visitors in firm control, before Yeremy Pino sealed the victory with a third two minutes from full time.

It leaves Liverpool having lost six of their last seven in all competitions.

Now out of the EFL Cup and having sunk to seventh in the Premier League, Arne Slot is facing serious question marks for the first time in his short tenure.

Odds are shortening on candidates for the next Liverpool manager, with Jurgen Klopp linked with a sensational return.

Andrew Robertson Voted Liverpool’s Worst Player In Cup Loss

When Liverpool announced his heavily-rotated team for Liverpool’s EFL Cup match against Palace, it was clear they were looking to prioritise Europe and the league.

Arne Slot has been bashed for using squad depth as an excuse, though.

Two players made their debuts, and five of the starting 11 had less than ten senior appearances.

But one man Liverpool would have been counting on was the vastly-experienced Andrew Robertson.

With more than 350 games for the Reds, Robertson is a decorated veteran and senior voice in the squad.

So when he dropped perhaps the worst performance of his Liverpool career, things quickly unravelled.

Andrew Robertson Liverpool

None of Liverpool’s starting XI covered themselves in glory.

But with a rating of 5.9, Robertson was voted the worst performer on the pitch. He was also lucky not be be sent off in the second half.

His lacklustre display comes despite the Scot boasting more appearances than almost all of his teammates combined.

Aside from fellow Reds veteran Joe Gomez, who boasts 247 appearances, the rest of Liverpool’s starting lineup from Wednesday have played a combined total of 249 first team games.

Thats more than 100 fewer than Robertson.

For one of Liverpool’s most experienced players to drop such a poor performance is indicative of their recent struggles.

But the real task for Arne Slot is working out how to escape this rut, before it’s too late.

Robertson has been sent off just twice in his Liverpool career.

A key figure in the club’s return to prominence, he has won plenty of silverware at Anfield.

Liverpool’s next game is on Saturday, when they host Aston Villa in the Premier League.
