Szoboszlai Injury Update

Dominik Szoboszlai is a doubt for Liverpool’s trip to Tottenham next Saturday, with Hungarian media providing the latest update on his ankle injury.

Dominik Szoboszlai Doubtful For Tottenham Trip

An update has been issued on the ankle injury suffered by Dominik Szoboszlai at the weekend.

The midfielder has been a mainstay for Liverpool this term, starring with five goals and five assists thus far, but was forced off after 83 minutes in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Brighton.

Speaking on Szoboszlai’s injury after the game, Arne Slot said: “It didn’t look great but he has unbelievable mentality, so let’s hope for the best.”

His issue comes off the back of a busy period for the Reds in the buildup to Christmas.

Up until his enforced withdrawal against the Seagulls, the 25-year-old had played every single minute for Liverpool in both the Premier League and the Champions League.

Supporters were left concerned over Szoboszlai’s potentially lengthy injury layoff, however these concerns have since been eased by positive preliminary reports.

Hungarian outlet Nemzeti Sport claim that initial examinations do not show a ‘serious injury’.

They state that it will likely be revealed later in the week if Szoboszlai is fit to take on Tottenham.

Luckily, the Reds do not have a midweek game this week, giving the midfielder every opportunity to recover in time for the trip to north London next Saturday.

Should he feature, he’ll need to take extra caution when going into challenges, not only because of his injury, but also because he is one yellow card away from being suspended.

Liverpool Injury Update: Frimpong Nearing Return

Joe Gomez, meanwhile, isn’t so lucky and looks set to miss the Spurs clash with a muscle issue.

The defender was forced off in the first half against Brighton, with Slot providing the latest on his injury following the full-time whistle at Anfield.

“If I have a player who goes off with a muscle injury like Joe, that’s normally not a positive thing.

“I would not expect him to be in the squad next week. But sometimes you get a positive surprise.”

Elsewhere, Conor Bradley is eligible to return after his suspension, and Jeremie Frimpong could be involved after returning from a hamstring injury suffered in October.

Slot said: “The good thing is that Conor Bradley comes back from a suspension [next week] and Jeremie Frimpong should start to train with us also.”

Mohamed Salah is unavailable after linking up with Egypt for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Recent reports suggest Liverpool do not want to sell the winger off the back of his outburst earlier this month, however he remains linked with moves to the Saudi Pro League and the MLS.

The Reds head into their tie against Spurs as favourites, currently sitting in sixth in the table.

They are now unbeaten in five straight matches across all competitions and have won back-to-back matches, with a 1-0 Champions League win over Inter preceding the Brighton triumph.

This, along with other results going in their favour, has seen Slot’s price drift in the latest Premier League sack race odds. Burnley’s Scott Parker is now favoured ahead of him in the market.
