Watch as Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes sarcastically hits back at Aston Villa fans during his side’s 2-1 defeat at Villa Park on Sunday evening.
Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes was caught responding to abuse from Aston Villa fans with a couple of cheeky jibes during the Red Devils’ 2-1 defeat at Villa Park on Sunday.
Fernandes suffered a hamstring injury during the first half at Villa Park, forcing Ruben Amorim into an early withdrawal, with preliminary reports suggesting he now faces a month out.
It comes as a major blow for United, as they are already having to deal with the absences of Bryan Mbeumo, Amad, Noussair Mazraoui, Kobbie Mainoo, Matthijs de Ligt and Harry Maguire.
After returning from the tunnel for the second period, Fernandes took his place on the United bench, where he was subjected to heaps of verbal abuse from Villa fans behind the benches.
Some labelled the midfielder a ‘rat’, while others simply hurled x-rated insults.
In response, Fernandes turned to face the abusive home supporters with a smile on his face before retaliating with some comments of his own in an attempt to silence the crowd.
He said: “You sing more for me than your team.
“Don’t be angry because I always score against you.”

The Portuguese star was then forced to watch on as his side fell to a 2-1 defeat, with England midfielder Morgan Rogers netting his second of the night to seal the win in the second half.
United have now won just two of their last eight English top-flight matches.
As a result, Fernandes’ compatriot Amorim is reportedly under pressure at Old Trafford. He is currently priced among the favourites in the Premier League sack race odds market.
If results don’t improve, he could be dismissed. Should that happen, Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner is favoured to replace him in the next Manchester United manager odds market.
Bruno Fernandes Record vs Aston Villa
Does Fernandes ‘always score’ against Villa, as he claims?
The 31-year-old undoubtedly boasts a strong record against the West Midlands outfit, having registered seven goals and three assists against them in 13 matches across all competitions.
However, he is now without a goal against Villa in five straight matches.
Of course, he failed to score against them on Sunday evening, along with in both league head-to-heads last term, as well as in both league head-to-heads during the 2023-24 season.
His last goal against the Villans came during a Premier League clash at Old Trafford in April 2023, where he captained Erik ten Hag’s side to a 1-0 triumph during the 2022-23 campaign.
Should Fernandes be ruled out for around a month, as is being suggested, he looks set to miss six matches. This includes next month’s Manchester derby against City at home.
United are next in action on Boxing Day when Eddie Howe’s Newcastle come to visit.
Amorim’s side are in seventh place in the league table ahead of the fixture, while the Magpies are four points behind in a lowly 11th place after their 2-2 draw against Chelsea last weekend.
