Championship side Hull are in talks with Liverpool over a short-term move for Lewis Koumas following the termination of his loan at Birmingham.
Hull in Lewis Koumas Loan Talks
Lewis Koumas is closing in on a short-term loan move to Championship side Hull City.
The Liverpool youngster spent the first half of the season at Birmingham, however the ambitious promotion-chasing side decided to cut the Welshman’s underwhelming loan spell short.
Koumas started just nine games for the Blues and has now returned to Anfield.
In total, he made 25 appearances across all competitions, chipping in with only one goal.
That goal came during the 3-2 win over table-toppers Coventry at the start of the month.
His St Andrew’s exit comes as Birmingham’s move for Carlos Vicente nears completion.
The Tigers, who came close to signing Koumas in the summer, have reignited their interest in the winger and look set to bring him to the MKM Stadium on a deal until the end of the season.
Hull Live report that talks between Hull and Liverpool have now reached an advanced stage.
Should the Tigers seal the 20-year-old’s signature, he will become their fourth signing of the window, following James Debayo, Kieran Dowell and Yu Hirakawa through the door.
Paddy McNair is also linked with a move to East Yorkshire amid his rumoured San Diego FC exit.
Manchester United youngster Toby Collyer is expected to join the club on loan, too.
Koumas Keen on Boosting Wales Prospects
Koumas, son of former West Bromwich Albion midfielder Jason Koumas, is keen for more game-time to boost his chances of featuring for Wales ahead of March’s World Cup playoffs.
Craig Bellamy’s side face Bosnia and Herzegovina in Cardiff in the semi-finals, and if victorious, they will host either Northern Ireland or Italy in the final for a spot at the finals.
The Dragons are aiming to qualify for a second successive World Cup and just their third throughout history, having crashed out during the group stage at the 2022 edition in Qatar.
Making his debut against Gibraltar in 2024, Koumas has a total of nine appearances for Wales.
His most recent cap came during a 1-0 win away at Liechtenstein in qualifying last November.
The likes of Sorba Thomas, Daniel James, Brennan Johnson and David Brooks are all preferred ahead of him, but a strong second half of the season could see him climb up the pecking order.
Speaking on Koumas earlier this season, Hull boss Sergej Jakirovic said: “Koumas is a very good player, a young player, with big potential, so we will see.
“We will see what will happen in the future.”
Hull have now won four consecutive matches across all competitions, most recently edging past Swansea with a 2-1 win, and they are next in action away at Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.
