Bookmakers have drastically slashed Tottenham’s odds of signing Raheem Sterling.
Sterling departed Chelsea by mutual consent on Wednesday after three-and-a-half years at Stamford Bridge.
The forward was allowed to move on in search of more game time elsewhere, and both Fulham and West Ham quickly emerged as the heavy favourites in an apparent two-horse race.

However, a major twist has emerged which could spark a market frenzy.
Indeed, according to TEAMtalk, Tottenham are in the race for the free agent’s signature after showing ‘serious interest’.
Potential suitors are, of course, able to sign Sterling for nothing, and Spurs are tempted to hand him a short-term contract.
Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest and Napoli have also expressed their interest. The player may prefer to stay in London, though, to be close to his young family.
This could place Spurs in pole position, especially considering they would be able to offer Sterling Champions League football.
Reflecting this, bookmakers have dramatically cut Tottenham’s odds, suggesting the smart money may now be on them.
Just two days ago, Thomas Frank’s side were cut adrift at 8/1. But as of Friday night, their odds had fallen to 4/1 – a 50 per cent drop.
Fulham are leading the race, with their latest odds standing at 6/4.
Tottenham Pushing To Sign Raheem Sterling
Per TEAMtalk, Tottenham believe Sterling can be an invaluable option to strengthen their frontline for the rest of the season.
The experienced 31-year-old’s pace, dribbling and experience at the top level would prove a major boost to Frank’s squad.
Sources have told the publication that an approach from Spurs is on the cards, while Frank is also open to the switch. His staggering wages could prove a stumbling block, though.
Sterling was earning around £300,000-a-week at Chelsea and would have no choice but to accept a pay cut if he wanted to join the likes of Napoli.
There has also been interest from Major League Soccer.
While Fulham are, for now, at the front of the queue, Spurs are certainly lurking behind them.
A bargain swoop for Sterling looks like a no-brainer, and it would be no surprise if they make an official approach in the coming days.
