Crystal Palace could take their January spending to £100million as they chase Everton’s Dwight McNeil.
The London strugglers have been embroiled in transfer sagas throughout the month, mostly revolving around striker Jean-Philippe Mateta.
The Frenchman was expected to leave Selhurst Park with a move to Juventus in the pipeline, but issues with his medical could scupper the transfer.
His departure, which is now likely to be on loan, may help facilitate the transfers of two players from their Premier League rivals.
Crystal Palace Target Dwight McNeil
According to reports, Palace are plotting a late £20million offer for winger McNeil to bolster their midfield options.
Everton have been reluctant to let McNeil leave this month after Jack Grealish was ruled out for the rest of the season with a fractured foot.
However, the Toffees may see the offer as too good to turn down, given his lack of appearances and form this season.
McNeil, 26, has only made seven Premier League starts and was left on the bench in the 1-1 draw against Brighton at the weekend.
He will also be entering the final year of his contract in the summer, and therefore, his value will decrease at the end of the season.
Nottingham Forest had been linked with McNeil, but are focusing their attentions elsewhere, with priorities to sign a midfielder and left-back.
Palace Spending Could Top £100m
Palace have already spent £35million on bringing Brennan Johnson to Selhurst Park from Tottenham.
A deal to sign McNeil would bring their spending to £55m, while Jorgen Strand Larsen is also awaiting the green light to make his £45m switch from Wolves.
The striker has completed his medical and is set to sign on the dotted line, but Mateta’s uncertainty is currently holding up any deal.
At the time of writing, AC Milan pulled out of a deal to sign him on a permanent deal, but numerous clubs are interested in landing him on loan.
Whether that has an impact on Strand Larsen’s deal remains to be seen, but Palace have cash in the bank after selling Marc Guehi to Manchester City earlier this month.
It’s been a turbulent time at the club this season, with manager Oliver Glasner revealing he’s leaving in the summer when his contract expires.
Palace are also being slowly sucked into a relegation scrap and are currently on a run of 12 games without a victory in all competitions.
They are currently the sixth favourites at 8/1 to be relegated from the Premier League.
