Raheem Sterling Set For Feyenoord Exit As Dutch Icons Deliver Brutal ‘Ibiza’ Retort

The high-profile experiment of Raheem Sterling in the Eredivisie appears to be coming to a premature and bitter end.

After making a shock move to Feyenoord in February following his departure from Chelsea and a quiet loan spell at Arsenal, the former England international is reportedly set to leave Rotterdam this summer.

Despite the fanfare surrounding his arrival, Sterling has struggled to find his feet under the management of Robin van Persie.

With zero goals to his name in domestic competition and a lack of match fitness, the 31-year-old has become the primary target for a ruthless Dutch media.

Raheem Sterling Feyenoord News: Contract Extension Ruled Out

Recent reports from the Netherlands suggest that Feyenoord’s hierarchy has officially ruled out a contract extension for the four-time Premier League winner.

While Van Persie initially urged patience, citing the need for Sterling’s fitness to “align” with the team’s goals, the patience of the De Kuip board has seemingly evaporated.

Sterling’s stint has been marred by a lack of impact on and off the ball.

In a recent goalless draw against FC Volendam, the winger was heavily criticised for his inability to beat his marker, leading to him being hauled off early—a recurring theme during his short stay in Holland.

“Go To Ibiza And Eat Paella”: Dutch Legends Slam Sterling

The most biting criticism came from Dutch footballing icons Rene van der Gijp and Willem van Hanegem.

Speaking on the Willem & Wessel podcast, the duo did not hold back in their assessment of the former Manchester City star’s decline.

“He should just go to Robin van Persie and say, ‘Let’s stop this, this isn’t going to work,'” Van der Gijp remarked.

“You’re not really helping anyone with this. He should just go to Ibiza, put on his swimming trunks, and eat a delicious paella with his wife. Then he’d be having a great time. But this isn’t going to work out for him anymore.”

Van Hanegem was equally scathing, suggesting Feyenoord should “ask for a refund” and that Sterling’s physical presence has diminished to the point where opponents “just walk right over him.”

What Is Next For Raheem Sterling? MLS Rumours Swirl

With his European career at a crossroads, rumours are beginning to circulate regarding a move to Major League Soccer (MLS).

Given his struggles with the pace of the Eredivisie, many analysts believe a move across the Atlantic could be the only viable option for a player who was once considered among the best in the world.

For now, Sterling remains a Feyenoord player, but with the club focused on securing a second-place finish and the board looking to offload his significant wages, the “Ibiza” retirement plan might be closer than he ever imagined.
