REGAL ULIXES ran a promising race on his recent debut at Goodwood, finishing a two-length third of ten after running green. The undulating nature of the Goodwood track makes it a difficult place for juvenile newcomers to win and those that are beaten but run well – defined as finishing seven lengths or less behind the winner – often make good bets at the second time of asking, with 29 of the 89 qualifiers since the beginning of 2021 proving successful (32.6% strike-rate) for a profit of £28.85 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 19.59, A/E = 1.48).

Progeny of the sire Sioux Nation have a good record in small fields (ten or fewer runners), landing 119 of their 626 starts (19% strike-rate) for a profit of £91.90 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 94.76, A/E = 1.26). The strike-rate improves to 31.2% (64 winners from 205 bets) for those who finished second, third or fourth on their latest start for a profit of £123.92. POWERFUL NATION, neck by a neck in a ten-runner Listed contest at Tipperary in early July, has been freshened up since and can land this eight-runner conditions contest.
