Liverpool boss Arne Slot has broken an unwanted 71-year record following his side’s 4-1 defeat by PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Liverpool Break Unwanted 71-Year Record
Arne Slot has broken another Liverpool record. However, this time, it’s an unwanted one.
The Reds have been in dreadful form over the last couple of months, and this was highlighted in their most recent Champions League outing, as they lost 4-1 to Eredivisie leaders PSV Eindhoven.
Slot’s men trailed after less than six minutes against the Dutch champions, with ex-Spurs winger Ivan Perisic converting from the spot following a handball by Reds captain Virgil van Dijk.
Dominik Szoboszlai restored the parity 10 minutes later, but a lovely first-time finish from Guus Til and a Couhaib Driouech double in the second half sealed an emphatic victory for the visitors.

Liverpool sit in 13th place in the UCL table as a result, primed for advancement to the knockout phase play-offs, while they are just one point adrift from the round of 16 qualification spots.
The embarrassing loss follows on from back-to-back 3-0 defeats by Manchester City and Nottingham Forest in the Premier League either side of November’s international window.
It broke an almost 72-year record, with the Reds losing in three consecutive matches across all competitions by a margin of three or more goals for the first time since December 1953.
That came as they suffered successive 5-1 losses to Portsmouth and Manchester United in the Football League First Division, followed by a thumping 5-1 defeat by West Bromwich Albion.
Coincidentally, the Merseysiders are in the midst of their worst run since that season in 1953-54, having suffered defeat in nine of their last 12 matches since the end of September.
Off the back of their poor run, some Liverpool fans have called for Slot to be sacked.
Priced at 6/4, the Dutchman is now the second favourite to go in our Premier League sack race betting odds market, behind only Leeds United’s under-pressure boss Daniel Farke.
Should Slot depart from his role at Anfield, former manager Jurgen Klopp is favoured to make a sensational return, according to the latest next Liverpool manager betting odds.
What Next For Liverpool?
The Reds return to action away at West Ham in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon, where they’ll be looking to end their humiliating losing streak against the relegation battlers.
They may have to do so without one of their star forwards though, with Hugo Ekitike a ‘major doubt’ to face the Hammers after exacerbating a back issue during the loss to PSV in midweek.
Ekitike was withdrawn for Alexander Isak after 61 minutes in clear physical discomfort.
Should Mohamed Salah and co pick up three points in East London, it will likely propel them back into the top half of the English top-flight table, where they currently occupy 12th place.
Their current position is a far cry from last season’s title-winning squad.
Following their trip to the London Stadium, they round off the calendar year with fixtures against Sunderland, Leeds, Inter Milan, Brighton, Tottenham Hotspur and Wolves.
Results will have to pick up for the Reds and under-pressure Slot, as if they don’t, several reports suggest that Anfield chiefs will part ways with the 47-year-old ahead of the January window.
