Arsenal transfer record

Arsenal fans have been left stunned after learning their second-biggest record transfer sale was Nicolas Anelka all the way back in 2000.

As the summer transfer window rolls on, fans of all football teams get excited about incomings and outgoings at their club.

But some Arsenal supporters are in disbelief after realising a shocking fact about their transfer business.

Despite being one of the biggest clubs in Europe, Arsenal rarely make high-profile sales.

The Gunners have never sold a player for more than £32 million.

And their transfer history reveals the unbelievable fact that Arsenal’s second-biggest sale of all time is still that of Nicolas Anelka to Real Madrid back in 2000.

Arsenal Transfer Record Leaves Fans Shocked

Unsurprisingly, plenty of Arsenal fans were shocked to learn this.

An image of the side’s biggest ever sales was shared on X (formerly Twitter), sparking a stunned reaction.

One fan replied to the post, saying: “This is actually diabolical how the hell are we a big club?!”

Another added: “We’ve sold so many 50+ mil players for frees.”

A third simply said: “Embarrassing.”

But other Gunners fans had an explanation for the low player sales.

“I think our issue is (and I’m no expert) we make players look less desirable so when teams come knocking they’re already low balling,” replied another fan.

Arsenal Record Sales:

  1. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – Liverpool – 2017-18 – £32 million
  2. Nicolas Anelka – Real Madrid – 1999-00 – £30 million
  3. Alexis Sanchez – Manchester United – 2017-18 – £29 million
  4. Cesc Fabregas – Barcelona – 2011-12 – £29 million
  5. Emile Smith Rowe – Fulham – 2024-25 – £27 million

Arsenal Transfers So Far This Summer

Despite a lack of significant player sale income, Arsenal continue to be active in the market.

But so far, they have completed no incoming Premier League summer transfers.

However, they are soon expected to complete the signing of Spanish midfielder Martin Zubimendi, who has completed a medical already.

Martin Zubimendi is expected to become Arsenal’s first summer signing.

Four players have departed the Emirates already, though.

Arsenal departures:

  • Jorginho – Flamengo (free)
  • Kieran Tierney – Celtic (free)
  • Nuno Tavares – Lazio (£7.6m)
  • Marquinhos – Cruzeiro (undisclosed)
