Arsenal transfer target Nico Williams has agreed on personal terms to join Barcelona on a six-year contract from Athletic Club. Nico Williams Agrees To Join Barcelona Amid Arsenal Interest Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Arsenal transfer target Nico Williams has agreed on personal terms to join Barcelona from Athletic Club this summer. He reports that the Spain international will join La Blaugrana on a six year deal, with Barca currently working on finalising financial terms to get the deal over the line. Romano wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “Nico Williams and Barça have agreed personal terms on 6 year deal! “Agreement sealed on player’s contract until June 2031 with the salary in the region of €7/8m net per season. “Barça are currently working on financial terms to get deal done with Athletic.” 🚨🔵🔴 Nico Williams and Barça have agreed personal terms on 6 year deal! The reigning LaLiga champions attempted to sign him last summer after he starred alongside Lamine Yamal throughout Spain’s successful European Championship campaign in Germany. He opted to remain with Athletic though, and Barca were forced to settle for Dani Olmo. But it now looks as though they’re finally closing in on their man, who has a reported €58m release clause, and this is despite heavy transfer interest from Premier League giants Arsenal. Bayern Munich and Chelsea are also reportedly interested in landing the youngster. The Gunners though, have been huge admirers of Williams for quite some time. Mikel Arteta has been keen to add another winger to his squad, with the 28-time Spain international being dubbed his number one target. It is thought that his wage demands have blocked the North Londoners from being able to reach any sort of agreement over a deal, however. Arsenal and Chelsea ‘Cool’ Pursuit of Nico Williams Even though both Arsenal and Chelsea have held a vested interest in landing Williams this summer, The Athletic report that the pair ‘cooled’ their pursuit of the player earlier in the week. The outlet also revealed that Athletic Club have offered the 22-year-old a new contract, with his current deal at the San Mames Stadium set to expire in the summer of 2027. Bayern are also said to have tabled an offer and may yet table another, but it seems as though Williams has his heart set on a move to Barcelona. It’s a move that makes a lot of sense given his close relationship with La Blaugrana starlet Yamal, whom he has formed a strong partnership with for the national team. As is typically the case for Spain, Williams will likely feature on the left wing in Hansi Flick’s system, with Yamal featuring on the right. Raphinha is expected to take up a more central role behind star striker Robert Lewandowski. Reports suggest Williams will sport the number 17 shirt at Camp Nou.
