Good effort levels but often gave the ball away too easily, almost giving Zagreb their best opportunity.

Solid performance and bailed out Timber after his potentially costly mistake. Good all-round display but had little to do defensively.

Gabriel Magalhaes: 7

Dependable and assured display, went down injured but fans will have been pleased to see him shake it off.

Oleksandr Zinchenko: 8

Put in his best Arsenal performance for a very long time. Marauding up the wing in attack and involved in everything, a very impressive showing from the Ukrainian.

Martin Odegaard: 7

Heavily involved and scored a late tap-in to seal the win. Not his best display but didn’t put a foot wrong and got the job done.

Jorginho: 7

Excellent before the break with a great range of forward passes. Dropped off in the second half but overall performed well.

Declan Rice: 8

A dominant performance topped off by his powerful strike to open the scoring. Missed a sitter late on but was superb throughout the match, controlled the game from midfield.

Raheem Sterling: 6

Full of endeavour but needs to do better. With Saka and Jesus missing, this was an opportunity for Sterling to stake his claim, but the winger could not find the end-product he was known for at Manchester City.

Kai Havertz: 8

Sumptuous assist for Rice’s opener followed by a well-taken header to double the lead. Great performance from the German and could have scored at least one more.

Gabriel Martinelli: 9

Did everything except score. Was absolutely on fire and created Arsenal’s first two goals. Ran the Zagreb back-line ragged all night and deserved to score, our man-of-the-match.

Came on at right-back, didn’t do much but wasn’t required to.

Ethan Nwaneri (for Sterling, ’59): 8

Good display from the youngster and almost bagged an assist late on.

Solid but unremarkable, did his job when he came on but by then Arsenal were cruising.

His deflected low cross set up Odegaard’s goal at the end, good cameo.

Came off the bench in the dying seconds, didn’t plat long enough to judge but great moment for him to make his senior debut.
