Following on from the Friday night season curtain raiser between Liverpool and Bournemouth – that the Reds won 4-2, Aston Villa welcome Newcastle to Villa Park in the early kick-off on Saturday afternoon.
The two sides finished level on points in fifth and sixth with 66 apiece in the English top-flight last term, however the Magpies grabbed the final Champions League qualification position ahead of the Villans due to a 14-goal swing on goal difference.
Ahead of the new campaign, Villa have added a new striker to their squad, with Evan Guessand coming from Nice for around £30m. They are also hoping to re-sign Marco Asensio from PSG.
Eddie Howe’s side, meanwhile, have added Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest and Malick Thiaw from AC Milan, and Aaron Ramsdale has joined on loan from relegated Southampton.
Additionally, Newcastle are considering a move for Nicolas Jackson from Chelsea.
Heading out the door, most likely to Liverpool, is star Toon striker Alexander Isak. With reports suggesting the Swede is refusing to play for the Magpies in an attempt to force a move to Anfield before the summer transfer window shuts.

Rogers hobbled off during a pre-season friendly against Roma last week with an ankle injury, and he failed to feature in the Villans’ following two friendlies against Marseille and Villarreal.
Recent reports suggest that this was just a precautionary measure, with his knock not thought to be a serious one. He has also been spotted in training, so one would assume he has every chance of starting when Newcastle come to visit on Saturday.
