Alphonso Davies struck in the 94th minute to send Bayern Munich through to the Champions League round-of-16 and leave Celtic heartbroken.

After a 2-1 win in the first leg at Celtic Park, all Vincent Kompany’s side had to do was protect their home advantage and avoid defeat to advance to the next round.

Following a goalless first half in Munich, Celtic levelled up the tie shortly after the hour mark as Nicolas Kuhn capitalised on some shambolic defending from the hosts.

Entering injury time, the hoops simply had to hold out for four minutes to give themselves a chance at settling the score in extra time but what can only be described as agonising torment soon arrived.

Michael Olise’s enticing delivery was met by Leon Gortezka in the air whose header proved too hot to handle for Celtic goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, spilling the ball into the path of Davies to bundle home and send the Allianz Arena wild.

Bayern rescued a 1-1 draw on the night to take the spoils with a 3-2 win on aggregate, booking their place in the round-of-16 draw this Friday.

As per the best football betting sites, Bayern remain one of the tournament favourites with odds of 7/1. Only Liverpool, Real Madrid, Arsenal and Barcelona possess shorter odds than the Bundesliga leaders.

Shockingly, the hosts generated more xG in the last minute of the game than the previous 93 combined. Their possible opponents for the round-of-16 are Atletico Madrid or Bayer Leverkusen.
