Lambourn-based trainer Jamie Osborne has confirmed his Heart Of Honor is on target to run in the Belmont Stakes – the third leg of the US Triple Crown – on June 7th. Intended Belmont Stakes Runner Heart Of Honor Currently In Saratoga Having run a fair fifth in the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico on 18th May, the Jamie Osborne-trained Heart Of Honor is on course to run in his second US Triple Crown race – the Belmont Stakes. The Belmont Stakes will be staged at Saratoga racecourse, with its normal home (Belmont Park) undergoing a massive renovation still, on Saturday June 7th – the same day as the English Derby at Epsom. Heart Of Honor missed the break in the Preakness and as a result jockey Saffie Osborne, who is the trainer’s daughter, was always on the back-foot. However, the 3 year-old son of Honor A.P. ran on well to finish 5th to Kentucky Derby runner-up Journalism (watch below) and the horse still picked up a cool £48,000 for his Preakness Stakes efforts. Trainer Jamie Osborne is also no stranger to trying his luck in the US – his classy Toast Of New York ran second in the 2014 Breeders’ Cup Classic – going down just a nose to Bayern. Osborne has since said that Heart Of Honor has remained in the US (Saratoga) and will be aimed at the $2m Belmont Stakes next – which is also billed as the ‘Third Jewel of the US Triple Crown’. Like in the Preakness Stakes, Heart Of Honor will also be ridden by regular rider Saffie Osborne. In a recent interview with ATR’s Matt Chapman, Osborne said “He’s (Heart Of Honor) in Saratoga now and preparing to run in the Belmont Stakes – as long as everything is okay he’ll run. “He’s done a little bit more stalls work. We did plenty heading into the Preakness Stakes, but he fluffed his lines. “I think there were other factors in play as well but if we can keep him a little bit calmer early on and he can behave in the stalls, he’ll jump alright. “You know what it’s like out there (US) – you give them half a notch, and you are a million-to-one. In 1990 the Dermot Weld-trained Go And Go won the race for Ireland. The son of Be My Guest was an easy 8-length winner of the Belmont Stakes that year, with Mick Kinane doing the steering. However, the horse only raced once more – which saw him being pulled up in the 1990 Breeders’ Cup Classic – again at Belmont.
