The EFL has confirmed that Blackburn vs Ipswich will be replayed in full following last week’s abandonment, but has an official date been set for the replay?
EFL Confirm Blackburn vs Ipswich To Be Replayed
The English Football League (EFL) has come to the ‘incredibly difficult decision’ that the Championship fixture between Blackburn Rovers and Ipswich Town should be replayed in full.
It was originally played on Saturday, 20 September, and with Rovers leading 1-0 and the Tractor Boys down to 10-men, the match was abandoned in the 79th minute after heavy rainfall.
Footage of the match referee attempting to bounce the ball on the playing surface at Ewood Park showed that the pitch was unplayable despite protests from players on the home side.

A statement on the EFL website read:Â “It was ultimately decided by a majority that the fixture should be replayed in full.
“The decision follows recent precedents relating to abandoned fixtures and is intended to uphold the integrity of the League competition which should, wherever possible, be based on a complete set of fixtures played to a conclusion on the day.”
The statement continued: “The Board recognised that this was an incredibly difficult decision and agreed to consult Clubs on the best approach to the development of new guidance to be considered in the event of a match abandonment.”
Rovers have confirmed that they are seeking further clarity from the EFL over the ruling and are considering all options, including the right to appeal against the decision.
Fans Fume At Blackburn vs Ipswich Replay News
Unsurprisingly, Blackburn fans are fuming that the match is set to be replayed in full.
Many feel as though they were almost guaranteed three points at the time of abandonment last week, given that they boasted both a scoreline and numerical advantage.
The Tractor Boys have a second chance now though, as the scoreline will be reset to 0-0, they’ll have another full 90 minutes to battle for the win, and they’ll be reinstated to 11 players.
One angered Rovers fan wrote on X (formerly Twitter):Â “If weâre one down with 10 minutes to go, just turn the floodlights off. We get another go at it then.”
Another supporter added:Â “Just play the last 10 minutes behind closed doors with the same score and cards/suspensions in play. Replaying the whole 90 with a full XI and at 0-0 is just ridiculous and a cop out.”
A neutral responded to the EFL’s statement with:Â ” Please explain how [the decision upholds the integrity of the league]? I’d be f***ing raging if I was a Blackburn fan. Time to ‘break’ the floodlights if you’re losing and with 10-men lads, get another crack at it. Spineless EFL.”
What Date Is The Blackburn vs Ipswich Replay?
An official date for the Blackburn vs Ipswich replay is yet to be set.
Both clubs and the EFL have confirmed that full details regarding the rearranged date and ticket information will be announced in due course.
Despite there being nothing concrete as of yet, the match is expected to be played in midweek.
A potential window for the rescheduled date could be when the Carabao Cup fourth round gets underway during the week commencing October 27.
This is as both sides have already been eliminated from the competition.
Whether Valerien Ismael and Kieran McKenna will be in charge of their sides by then remains to be seen, with the pair being priced at 12/1 and 14/1 in the Championship sack race odds.
