Prior to that, the West Midlands side won the competition in 1893, 1908 and 1949. They have also lost in the final on four occasions with the last coming in 1939.

More recently, Wanderers got to the semi-final in 2019 whereby they were defeated 3-2 by Watford. The Hornets would go on to lose 6-0 to Manchester City in the final.

Last time out, Vitor Pereira’s side beat rivals Aston Villa 2-0 at Molineux. Jean-Ricner Bellegarde and the in-demand Matheus Cunha netting the all important goals.

Harry Pickering, Hayden Carter, Scott Wharton, Sondre Tronstad, Yuki Ohashi and Harry Leonard are all ruled out for Blackburn.

January signing Dion Sanderson is cup-tied having featured for Birmingham in the earlier rounds. Boss John Eustace has said changes will be made to the usual starting XI.

Meanwhile, Wolves will be missing Yerson Mosquera, Enso Gonzalez, Sasa Kalajdzic and Jorgen Strand Larsen. Similar to Eustace, Vitor Pereira is expected to rotate at Ewood Park.

Boubacar Traore is available for selection and deadline day additions Nasser Djiga and Marshall Munetsi could well be included in the matchday squad.

Although this tie does offer a hint of a small upset, we are predicting Wolves to banish those worries and win handsomely in Lancashire.

Both sides are expected to make changes but we feel that the Old Gold will still be far too strong for the EFL Championship side.
