The 2025 BMW Championship prize money on offer this week is $20m, plateauing for the third consecutive season. The total BMW Championship purse has increased by $10.5m in just five years.
Below we have outlined the FULL purse breakdown for all 50 players who will earn some form of prize money at Caves Valley this week in the second FedEx Cup play-off event of the PGA Tour season.
$20M Worth Of BMW Championship Prize Money On Offer This Week In Second FedEx Cup Playoff Event
This week sees the BMW Championship take centre-stage on the PGA Tour in what is the second FedEx Cup play-off event as we embark on the final couple weeks of the golf season.
Last week it was Justin Rose who reigned supreme in the first play-off event at the FedEx St Jude Championship, in the absence career Grand Slam winner Rory McIlroy who was the only top player not in the field.
Now, the 2025 BMW Championship sees the top 50 best players over the course of the season compete at Caves Valley. All 50 players are set to earn some form of prize money, with the top 30 in the FedEx Cup standings after the tournament progressing to the Tour Championship finale next week.
Each of the top 50 in the current FedEx Cup standings are in action this week, including world number one Scottie Scheffler, last week’s winner Rose and plenty more star names.
Scheffler, who is the outright favourite to win this week with all golf betting sites, currently leads the FedEx Cup standings by a substantial margin. He also won the season-long event last year, aiming to go back-to-back come the Tour Championship next week too.
As the second FedEx Cup play-off event, the St Jude Championship prize money is one of the biggest on the PGA Tour. A $20m purse is set to be split between all 50 players in action this week at Caves Valley GC in Owings Mills. This $20m purse is the same as it was in both 2023 and 2024.
Last year it was Team USA Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley who reigned supreme at the 2024 BMW Championship on a score of -12 par. This year, he aims to go back-to-back but is up against it with the likes of Scheffler, McIlroy, Rose and co all in action.
BMW Championship Winners Purse Remains At $3.6M For Third Consecutive Year
Whoever goes on to lift the trophy come Sunday will be in for a bumper payday and large share of the BMW Championship prize money pot for the 2025 showing of the longest-running PGA Tour event on the calendar, outside of the four majors.
Whoever clinches victory come Sunday evening will leave Caves Valley with an extra $3,600,000 in the bank, with the runner-up also pocketing a tidy $2,160,000. The top three finishers this week in Maryland will all receive seven-figure paycheques.
This $20m purse is one of the biggest on the PGA Tour and is even more lucrative than some of the major championships. Even the player that finishes in 50th place will be guaranteed a payday of $66,000. Not bad for four days of work!
This comes after the FedEx St Jude Championship prize money also plateaued for a third successive season in last week’s PGA Tour event.
BMW Championship Prize Money Has Increased By $10.5M In Last Five Years
With the total prize pot for this year’s BMW Championship remaining at $20m for a third straight year, this means that there has been an increase of precisely $10.5m since two-time major champion Jon Rahm won the event back in 2020.
When Spain’s Rahm won the tournament five years ago, the total purse was just $9.5m. This means Rahm, who is inside the top 20 highest earning golfers of all time, pocketed $1,710,000 in prize money for his play-off victory over Dustin Johnson.
Prior to this, the purse increased by just $1.25m from 2015 when Jason Day won the BMW Championship, up to 2020 when Rahm was victorious. The BMW Championship purse remained the same in 2021 when Patrick Cantlay won, before a huge increase of $5.5m in 2022.
This was when the BMW Championship became one of the top signature PGA Tour events, hence the dramatic rise in prize money. This is partly down to the emergence of LIV Golf, with the PGA Tour being forced to pay bigger purses to help retain their top players.
The BMW Championship purse increased in 2023 by another $5m to $20m, which is what it is today. Next year may well see an increase in funds once again, but no official announcement has been made on that just yet.
Below is a table outlining the FULL 2025 BMW Championship prize money and purse breakdown.
