The race to sign Manchester United castaway Marcus Rashford is boiling down to two of Europe’s biggest clubs – Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona.

Marcus Rashford transfer update: Dortmund and Barcelona in two-horse race

Rashford has not featured for United since he was an early substitute in a Europa League win over Viktoria Plzen on December 12 and both parties appear keen on a move away this month.

The 27-year-old made the bench against Newcastle before the New Year due to limited squad options but his participation has been purposely restricted to work on a transfer behind the scenes.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the two clubs in pole position for Rashford’s signature are Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona.

Reportedly, the Carrington academy graduate will only accept a move to a club among Europe’s top-five leagues with his ultimate goal to break back into the England squad.

After being left out of the squad for United’s Manchester derby win before Christmas, Rashford expressed his desire for a new challenge.

Ruben Amorim: I don’t believe playing Rashford is the best for the team

Following United’s 3-1 defeat at home to Brighton on Sunday, Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim told the media Rashford isn’t playing because he doesn’t believe his inclusion is what’s best for the team.

“I am not going to put a player I don’t believe is the best for the team.”

As per the best football betting sites, if Rashford stays at United – which is a possibility due to his extortionate wages – AC Milan are the 7/4 favourites to sign him in the summer.
