Chelsea’s ongoing struggles between the posts have led to calls for the club to sign former Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.

Ex-Blues defender Jason Cundy believes Ramsdale could be the solution to Chelsea’s ‘massive problem’ in goal.

The Blues have yet to find a reliable No. 1 despite multiple investments in the position.

Robert Sanchez started the season but was dropped after costly errors, while Filip Jorgensen has also struggled, most recently making a critical mistake in Chelsea’s 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa.

Jason Cundy: “Ramsdale Would Be an Improvement”

Cundy thinks Ramsdale would be a clear upgrade on Chelsea’s current options.

Ramsdale made nearly 100 appearances for Arsenal before losing his spot to David Raya and joining Southampton in search of regular playing time.

However, his move has not gone as planned, with the Saints sitting at the bottom of the Premier League table.

Cundy believes that Ramsdale may be available in the summer, especially if Southampton are relegated.

“The goalkeeper position has been a massive problem for Chelsea,” Cundy said on talkSPORT. “Jorgensen dropped an absolute dolly against Aston Villa. That cost us at least a point.

“I would definitely take Ramsdale – he’s an improvement.”

Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher Also Considered

As well as Ramsdale, Cundy also named Liverpool’s backup goalkeeper, Caoimhin Kelleher, as another option Chelsea could consider.

The Irish shot-stopper is highly rated but has struggled for playing time behind Alisson at Anfield.

“Clearly, the goalkeeper situation has been a bit of a disaster. Sanchez got the gloves, but over the last three months, it’s been quite obvious he’s suffering,” Cundy added.

“I think they will be looking to replace Sanchez unless they believe [Djordje] Petrovic, who is out on loan, is good enough.”

Maresca Faces Tough Decisions in the Short Term

In the short term, manager Enzo Maresca must decide whether to persist with Jorgensen or make another change in goal.

Despite his costly mistake, Maresca has publicly backed Jorgensen, stating:

“He is okay. He feels a little bit sad or upset because he recognises the mistake, but overall, he is okay.

“If we change players every time there is a mistake, we will be making changes game by game.”

Will Chelsea Sign a New Goalkeeper This Summer?

With their goalkeeping struggles showing no signs of improvement, Chelsea may be forced to act in the summer transfer window.

The club have invested heavily in goalkeepers in recent years, but none have provided the long-term stability needed at the highest level.

Ramsdale remains a strong candidate, given his experience in the Premier League and his desire for regular first-team football.

If Southampton are relegated, Chelsea could find themselves in a strong position to secure his signature at a reasonable price.

Kelleher is another viable option, though prying him away from Liverpool could be challenging, particularly to a direct rival.

Another possibility is Djordje Petrovic, currently on loan.

Chelsea may recall him or reassess his potential as their long-term No. 1, but with little top-level experience, relying on him could be a gamble.
