The Blues failed to come to an agreement over his transfer prior to the Club World Cup, but talks have continued, and there is hope a resolution can be reached swiftly. This is despite interest from Bayern Munich, who are also keen on the England U21 star. Ornstein reports that Gittens favours a move to Stamford Bridge over the Allianz Arena and is fully committed to the idea of playing under Enzo Maresca in West London. The 20-year-old has already agreed on personal terms with the club. He is reportedly set to join on a seven-year contract when a club-to-club agreement is reached. Negotiations between Chelsea and the German giants have been helped by the fact that both teams are competing at the Club World Cup, with talks being conducted stateside. Hailing from Reading, Gittens was a standout performer for Die Borussen last term. He joined the club from Manchester City on a free transfer in 2020, and after being hampered by the COVID-19 pandemic and a torn ligament, he made his first-team debut in 2022. Gittens continued to impress at Westfalenstadion over the following seasons. He became a first-team regular in 2023, turning out 34 times for the club during the 2023-24 campaign. This season has undoubtedly been his best however, as he has made a total of 49 appearances for the club across all competitions, netting a total of 12 goals and providing five assists. He has also become a regular for the England U21 national team. Since making his debut in 2023, Gittens has featured 11 times for Lee Carsley’s side and has scored one goal. Additionally, Gittens spent a brief spell at Chelsea as a youngster before rejoining his hometown club Reading in 2013. He departed the Royals for Manchester City in 2018.
