Chelsea are reportedly advancing on a move to sign England U21 international Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund on a seven-year contract.

According to David Ornstein at The Athletic, Jamie Gittens’ proposed move to Chelsea from Borussia Dortmund could be completed imminently.

The Blues failed to come to an agreement over his transfer prior to the Club World Cup, but talks have continued, and there is hope a resolution can be reached swiftly.

This is despite interest from Bayern Munich, who are also keen on the England U21 star.

Ornstein reports that Gittens favours a move to Stamford Bridge over the Allianz Arena and is fully committed to the idea of playing under Enzo Maresca in West London.

The 20-year-old has already agreed on personal terms with the club. He is reportedly set to join on a seven-year contract when a club-to-club agreement is reached.

Negotiations between Chelsea and the German giants have been helped by the fact that both teams are competing at the Club World Cup, with talks being conducted stateside.

It is believed that Dortmund are holding out for around £50m to £55m for the youngster.

Who Is Jamie Gittens?

Hailing from Reading, Gittens was a standout performer for Die Borussen last term.

He joined the club from Manchester City on a free transfer in 2020, and after being hampered by the COVID-19 pandemic and a torn ligament, he made his first-team debut in 2022.

Gittens continued to impress at Westfalenstadion over the following seasons. He became a first-team regular in 2023, turning out 34 times for the club during the 2023-24 campaign.

This season has undoubtedly been his best however, as he has made a total of 49 appearances for the club across all competitions, netting a total of 12 goals and providing five assists.

He has also become a regular for the England U21 national team. Since making his debut in 2023, Gittens has featured 11 times for Lee Carsley’s side and has scored one goal.

Additionally, Gittens spent a brief spell at Chelsea as a youngster before rejoining his hometown club Reading in 2013. He departed the Royals for Manchester City in 2018.

In other news, Chelsea are reportedly eyeing a move for Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Spanish outlet Fichajes.net report that the Blues are looking to capitalise on Ter Stegen’s current situation after Barcelona signed a new goalkeeper, Joan Garcia, for £21.4m.

Manchester United are also said to be interested in the German.

It comes amid talks of Robert Sanchez’s potential Stamford Bridge exit. Reports suggest that West Ham are looking to strike a deal to sign the Spaniard this summer.

Elsewhere, the Blues have also been linked with a move for Lyon starlet Malick Fofana, as well as Paris Saint-Germain and France striker Randal Kolo Muani.

Kolo Muani, who is currently on loan at Juventus and is away with the Serie A side at the Club World Cup, has confirmed that he’d like to remain in Turin, however.

He told Tuttosport: “I don’t know anything about Chelsea, I’m trying to focus on the Club World Cup. We’ll see what happens on the market at the end of the competition.

“If it were only up to me, I’d stay here, as I’m really happy at Juventus.”

Nicolas Jackson, meanwhile, has been linked with a move away from the club.

The Blues are next in action at the Club World Cup in the early hours of Wednesday morning, as they take on Esperance de Tunis in their final Group D fixture.
