Warwick racecourse will stage one of their biggest race days on the jumps calendar this Saturday – with the Classic Chase the feature event at 3:00pm.
Run over 3m5f on what is forecast to be soft or heavy ground, then stamina will be the order of the day – while you might remeber in 2017 we saw One For Arthur win the Classic Chase and go onto land the Aintree Grand National.
2024 Classic Chase Winner My Silver Lining Hoping To Be First Repeat Classic Chase Winner
Trainer Emma Lavelle has won two of the last three runnings of the Classic Chase at Warwick – in 2022 with Eclair Surf and 12 months ago with My Silver Lining.
The last-named lines up again in 2025 too as this good-looking grey mare will hope to be the first ever back-to-back winner of this marathon race.
Choisty won the race in 2000 and 2002, but not in consecutive seasons.
Now aged 9, My Silver Lining will also be hoping to win for the first time since taking this prize in 2024. She’s raced six times since without success.
On a plus, as a result of not winning again, she’s slipping back down the handicap and is now rated only 4lbs higher than last year.
She’s on a mark of 126 now, having won this off 122 – but had peaked at 133 last term after also running a fine third in the Midlands National at Uttoxeter in mid-March.

Classic Chase Runners 2025 Headed By Mr Vango
Nico de Boinville has already been booked to ride the Sara Bradstock-trained Mr Vango.
This 9 year-old heads the betting with the best horse racing betting sites in the UK after winning the London National Handicap at Sandown last month (watch below, just fast forward to the final race on the Tingle Creek highlights reel).
Mr Vango has also been hiked just 4lbs by the handicapper for that win and having won on soft and heavy ground in the past will have ideal conditions again.
He ticks the right Classic Chase age too – as 11 of the last 14 winners were aged 9 or younger.
However, if he is sent off as market leader with the best betting sites in the UK, this could be a worry as the Classic Chase has only had two winning favourites in the last 19 runnings. Plus, there’s only been one winning jolly (joint) in the last 10 renewals.
My Silver Lining returned 17/2 (4th favourite) when she won the race in 2024.

This Year’s Classic Chase Winner Will Have One Eye On The Grand National
Last year’s Classic Chase result was an all-girl affair as along with My Silver Lining, we also saw the mare Galia Des Liteaux run second.
This Skelton runner went onto run a fine 8th in the Aintree Grand National too – beaten just 21 lengths to I Am Maximus.
Beauport, who was pulled up in the 2024 Classic Chase, also came out later that season to win the Midlands Grand National.
Slightly older horse racing fans will also remember the Lucinda Russell-trained One For Arthur landing the 2017 Classic Chase and then go onto glory in the biggest steeplechase in the world – the Grand National at Aintree just three months later.
